C'est chiant de sortir le dimanche. Mais c'est moins chiant que 7 ans avec un maire d'extrême-droite.

Image by Ella Maillart of men in Beiping (modern-day Beijing) gathered to read the latest news posted on a public bulletin board. This form of public information sharing was a common method of dissemination before widespread television or internet access.

The sign on the left of the photo reads 'Harmony and Prosperity (和順德), while the bulletin board header reads 'Beiping Daily News Publication Agency (北海日報社煮貼)'.

War: when words changed In the first year of the Peloponnesian War, the Athenians gathered to bury their dead. According to the historian Thucydides, it was the custom that a prominent citizen speak over those who had fallen in battle. That year the task fell to the statesman Pericles. The speech he delivered was less a eulogy than a portrait of the city itself. Athens, he told the mourners, was unlike any other polis in Greece.

It is June 1939 in Geneva. Europe is wavering between fear and reeling. As the continent moves towards war, two Swiss women get into an open-top car - heading east towards Kabul, Afghanistan. 12,000 kilometres ahead of them.

Green is never just green: It can comfort, seduce, and challenge.
In this exhibition, artists reveal how many stories can be contained within a single color. From cool neon to mossy darkgreen, each shade speaks of time, longing, and landscape. Some works draw you in like the edge of a forest, others cut through like a traffic light. At times it feels like a walk through a silent garden, at others like a loud signal.

On view are paintings, drawings, and photography by Astrid de Pauw, Jan Theun van Rees, Boukje Spaltro, Julius Stibbe, Anneke Timmerman, and Marius van Zandwijk

Exhibition: ALL GREEN
Opening: 22 March, 3:00 PM
At Kunstuitleen Alkmaar

Green is never just green.
From neon to moss.
Calm. Longing. Landscape. Signal

Curator: Marianne Roodenburg
