I’d say their culture has worked out alright in the last decade

I’m sure they were consulted, per the reporting I’ve seen and my experience being on a team that also opted out of a bowl game in 2009.

Remind me why he can’t be all of those things still?

I think campaigning for the playoff is "required" the same way sleeping in your office as a coach is "required": it makes you feel like you're doing everything you can, and you're convinced everyone else is doing it so you have to as well.
