Hey if anyone is considering backing up any datasets for some reason today, the Open Science Framework has free storage up to 5G/private repository, and up to 50G/public repository.

(The OSF is run by a 501c3 (Center for Open Science), so if you do this you might also consider making a donation.)

Cryptic coral diversity is associated with symbioses, physiology, and response to thermal challenge Cryptic coral hosts differ in phenotypes relevant to climate change.

NEW research out today
www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
It's been a long time coming. Led by Hannah Aichelman, Brooke Benson, and others, we found that patterns of thermal responses in microbes, phenotypes, etc in the field and the lab were driven by cryptic lineage of the coral host.

Understanding how BCM nutrient cycling sustains mat growth is key, as these mats can harbor pathogenic bacteria, smother benthic invertebrates, and are proliferating rapidly as climate change accelerates, especially in tropical ecosystems

We reviewed publications on BCMs since 1965 and address how spatial, temporal, and successional dynamics structure nutrient cycling within BCMs. We find that oxygen gradients within BCMs structure carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycling across ecosystems and mat types.
