We mobilized to the San José Appeals Board hearing on 11/13, alongside the tenants & Law Foundation of Silicon Valley. After well over a dozen public comments, a Deputy Director of Code Enforcement agreed to look into the MULTIPLE pending Code Enforcement cases & connect with the tenants association
One of the slumlords, Richard Gregersen, has been found guilty of fraud for neglecting another apartment complex he owns, while funneling tenants' money towards luxury shopping and self-enrichment.
Slumlords like the Gregersens should be fined, plain and simple! But cases like the Summerwind tenants have gotten stuck in a city bureaucracy that is purposely kept understaffed and defunded by the landlord class.
Cockroaches, mold, and broken elevators are just a few of the issues tenants have had to deal with. Even after filing Code Enforcement complaints, the owners failed to meet deadlines and have faced 0 fines.

For years, tenants at Summerwind Apartments in East San José have been forced to live under atrocious living conditions that their landlords, Richard and Brent Gregersen, have refused to fix – all the while retaliating against their tenant union.
