It's a perpetual loop of the other side is evil so let's keep doing worse or more desperate things to combat the evil. Both sides are in two different realities, where I think it's clear the left is more aligned with the truth considering the abandonment or lack of trust in science from the right.

There is also a very clear explanation for this idea of "both sides becoming more radical". There is next to no accountability for any of it, especially on the right. So when people on the left try to play by the rules and get run over for it, some will start to take the gloves off

Radical is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Do you mean radical from the perspective of the other side? As you said, it's about perspective. If you truly are a centrist you can't seriously tell me there are not more radical right than there are radical left.

Are we really gonna call FASFA and Pell grants a failure? I among many others use these to make college much more affordable. DOE gone means these are gone. How can you tell me that's a failure?

Just to emphasize again the key point from this great JMP: there has been a massive shift in political realignment such that less educated voters sort into the Republican Party due to cultural messaging, while economic policy only modestly keeps them in the Democratic Party
