06.02.2026 17:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The ambitionโto unearth, record and present the great romantic piano concertos of yesteryearโwas vast, almost gothic in scale. Now, a chance to collect the whole series across two 50CD boxed sets.

04.02.2026 17:12 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Cellist Steven Isserlis has given us a winning new recording, โ1851โ on @hyperionrecords.bsky.social. He and his esteemed duo partner Connie Shih (on a vintage Erard) play sonatas composed in that year by Moscheles and Schumann (violin sonata No. 2 transcribed by Isserlis) and other short pieces.

"We come to a piece that may, I fear, offend purists on two counts: 1) it dares to add a supplement to the perfect music of J S Bach; 2) unlike all the other pieces on this album, it was published not in 1851, butโshock horrorโin 1853!"

โฆ Steven Isserlis's new album takes a single yearโ1851โas its starting point, and explores music written in that year by a circle of musical friends; and Roberto Prosseda's collection of the piano works of Georges Bizet will come as an agreeable discovery to many listeners.

Knรผpfer's obituarist (alas, the composer died aged just forty-three) approvingly noted 'such sweetness and skilfulness that he delighted even the saddest hearts' in the music, a tribute with which it's difficult to take issue on the evidence of this album.
