Carl Sagan
You know
the world
is not ending,
but the world
you know
is.
After so many years
of this pandemic
we know what we must do
to make it through
yet another wave:
wear a proper mask,
test frequently,
protect ourselves,
and try to protect others,
yes, after so many years
we know what we must do,
but (alas) how few of us
are willing to do it.
I told a friend
that the Walgreensβ dashboard
is showing a 15.5% increase
in Covid cases in the US,
to which he replied
that he canβt tell
if having to rely on
the Walgreensβ dashboard
for Covid data
means weβre in a comedy
or weβre in a tragedy,
and in response
I just said: yes.
Masking should be mandatory in all healthcare settings. Hospitals and doctorβs offices are where most sick people congregate. Itβs also the most likely place for more high risk people to be. You shouldnβt have to risk getting sicker or more disabled while trying to get treatment.

The water should be ready for fish next week.

ME isnβt just about feeling tired. Exercise wonβt fix it.
Its disrupts the metabolism and impairs the brain, immune system, and autonomic nervous system .
It impacts every part of your life .
It is debilitating.
It would be.
The information exists. Right now, itβs just a matter of data entry and storage.
I encourage everyone to volunteer or work with Elections Canada at least once. Itβs an incredibly insightful experience.
Prior to 2020, I worked every federal and provincial election since I was 18.
(Note: Terrebonne was briefly held by Groupe Parliamentaire, which split from and then merged back to the Bloc, with a single MP through the split and remerge).
You cannot possibly know how a riding might flip until after all ballots have been cast and counted.
Every single vote matters.
I genuinely do not understand what you mean.
Many of the ridings that flipped by a narrow margin had previously been held by one party or another by a wide margin for many years or decades. Terrebonne is an excellent example, actually, having been Bloc since 1993
This information is kept by Elections Canada and can be accessed by anyone. Currently, you can go back to 1997, though raw data is only available online as far back as 2006.

Also, I think our government would look very different if 100% if eligible voters truly believed their vote mattered and voted their conscience.
11.05.2025 21:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I maintain, regardless of how much our system needs changing (and it does need changing), every single vote counts.
Furthermore, if every eligible voter in this country did their civic duty and voted, we would have a much stronger sense of where support falls.
The votes in a riding with a small winning margin are no more important. They only require more attention to ensure counting was done correctly.
It seems as though you may be conflating the likelihood of a counting error in a riding with the importance of the votes in that riding.
The votes in the ridings with a large winning margin are no less important than the votes from ridings with a small margin.
The votes from the ridings with a large margin simply declare a stronger mandate for that party in that riding.
I do not follow your argument at all.
Our system is flawed. I agree with that. Campaigns have been run since I started voting decades ago on changing our system.
Some ridings win with a large margin, some with a very tiny (1 vote) margin.
A seat means a voice for issues. And if a single ballot can change a voice, every single vote matter. Even if your party doesnβt lead. Even if your party only has a single seat. Itβs a voice and it makes a difference.
11.05.2025 20:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I respectfully disagree.
Recounts like this show how, regardless of who you vote for, every single vote really does count.
It came down to a single ballot. One person.
That has the potential to be true for any party in any riding, giving a seat and voice, regardless of who the leading party is.
A used Flo Mask filter folded over to compare the front and back sides of the filter. The front is dingy grey and the back is bright white, indicating how much dirt was kept out of my lungs.
And hereβs the used filter showing the front and back at the same time.
I deserve clean air.
I deserve to be healthy.
So do you.
A Flo Mask respirator with a slightly dirty filter.
The same Flo Mask respirator with a new, clean filter. The used filter looks very dirty compared to the clean one.
Two Flo Mask filters side by side. One is bright white and one is dingy grey and very dirty.
The filters have been switched out on the Flo Mask respirator. The amount of dirt the used filter prevented from going in my lungs is very noticeable.
I will be sending this picture to anyone and everyone who asks me why I still mask.
This was a fresh clean filter before I started 2 days of gardening.
I deserve to breathe clean air.
So do you.

A lot of people switched party loyalty so strongly that we need to demand the highest level of excellence and cooperation from our leaders.
29.04.2025 21:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I did say that in the next part of the post you quoted.
The demands are a little different, though. We need non-Liberal MPs to be willing to work with the elected government. Liberal MPs, on the other hand, need to be held accountable to fulfill promises *in addition* to cooperating.
We need to hold them accountable to the promises they made and insist they follow the mandate they were given.
It would be lovely to rest, but we canβt.
If you have a Liberal MP, get writing, too. We need clear cooperation across party lines to keep our sovereign nation whole.
We need our leaders, provincial and federal, to work together.
I donβt know about you, but I donβt know if I can stomach doing this again in 2 years.
We are stronger together.
If you live in a riding that has a non-Liberal member of parliament, itβs time to get writing!
Write to your MP.
We need them to put country over party and work in the best interest of the people.
Last nightβs election was a wild ride.
The ride is not over.
The Liberal Party won, but unfortunately not with enough seats for a majority.
