(5/6)I have tried to keep up an optimistic tone, arguing that change is possible - and I’m still trying to keep up this hope, even though I’m reading the news every day. We owe it to the next generations not to give up!

(4/6) ... that working conditions are deteriorating dramatically in many jobs, that the blind focus on economic growth makes our planet uninhabitable, and that the more citizens are exploited and need to work long hours, the less time they have for being citizens.

(3/6) When I was planning and writing the book, I had no idea how much further on this erosion would have gotten by the time it would be published…

You don’t have to be a radical (though of course you can be) to see that economic inequality is undermining political equality...

(2/6) It’s a (kind of desperate) attempt to explain what is wrong with our economic system starting from minimal premises that can, hopefully, speak to a broader readership. My main line is that the economic system we currently have erodes the foundations of our democracies.
