Of course, it is also hard to ignore the portrayal of the Baltics in the early stages of the book. The author portrays the three countries as largely Nazi collaborators and describes them solely through the eyes of the Soviets.
One interesting theme was the portrayal of Georgi Zhukov. Normally shown simply as the daring and heroic hero of the Eastern Front, Salisbury instead portrays him as a uncompromising, over bearing butcher who will go off on his own subordinates.
Yesterday I finished the 900 Days by Harrison Salisbury. A gripping and insightful look at the Seige of Leningrad, Salisbury does a good job of describing high-level and personal stories. Though, it can get a tad too 'in the weeds. 🧵
