01.02.2026 21:10 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0How can we build community owned healthcare that rewards prosocial people/behaviors/relationships?
Short term, mid term, & long term?
Like can people learn more than just the basics & cpr? Can we pool money for community owned drug & test libraries? Community owned HC facilities?
In places like Thembisa and the Free State, community food gardens are transforming lives. From feeding learners to providing jobs and fresh produce for families, these gardens show how local partnerships can strengthen food systems and education.

Even better than this is door-knocking for your local party, but I know not everyone is comfortable with that.
Even if you are, this is a great way to find and test effective ways to communicate with potentially confrontational people.
My personal dos/don'ts:
โ
๏ธ Say "I agree with..." if you can
โ
๏ธ Join existing conversations
โ
๏ธ Gently point out hypocrisies
โ
๏ธ Correct misinformation (w/ sources)
โ๏ธ Start political conversations yourself
โ๏ธ Preach/get upset/mad - they enjoy that
โ๏ธ Insult individuals
โ๏ธ Get ideological
A challenge for anyone who wants to tackle the threat of Reform UK, and can stay calmly factual with people repeating their message:
Get on Nextdoor.
It's a hotbed for the casual Reform voters who are just following the crowd.
Find common ground, and introduce them to other viewpoints.
If something is legally required, like car insurance, then the industry should be nationalised. Why should the law force me to make profit for their shareholders rather than taxpayers?

Purposefully hold back progress on undeniably better technology.
Go to war to distract from crumbling infrastructure.
Pay for war and anti-progess lobbying with stolen oil that should be redundant by now.
Repeat.

NEW VIDEO: Thanks to our anti-social social order, many people are struggling with a lack of community in their lives. I believe we can change that. Let's revisit the village of the past, then sketch out a radical vision for the future of community.

Yeah, all it's doing is pushing me further away from Labour. They either:
a) can't distinguish between communication style and the actual message
b) look at Reform and Greens and think "hm, yes, these would be equally bad"
c) are blindly loyal to their party
None are qualities I want in an MP.
You must recognise that a growing portion of the economy is sacrificing quality of life (workers rights, product quality, the health of our planet etc.) so profit goes up.
GDP may have worked as a measure at one point, but people's awareness of GDP as the primary success metric is now a confounder.
That's a huge leap, especially for someone involved in causal inference.
I understand the collective struggle of living through times getting worse, but GDP is not the only measure of quality of life. I'd actually argue it's pretty irrelevant to most people.
Humans just need progress. We need something to be getting better. That can be our social life, self-development, career, family, anything tangible in our own lives.
Trying to argue that "GDP line go up" is an innate human need is the kind of take that makes economics sound like a cult.
Disengage.
There's a massive dumpster fire in front of us, and most of us are trying to put it out, but the guys who sell us the water are the same guys chucking the molotovs.
We can just turn around, and walk away.
