That inner critic when youโ€™re actively writing is a tough one to ignore. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Book two is harder to write than book one; cause at least with book one you had 0 word count and a dream.

Book two you have a previously completed and refined first draft youโ€™re constantly comparing your messy first draft to.

What I love about the Blood Debts series is that even tho it deals with racism and systemic oppression, and even tho there are white villains, the main heroes and villains are from OUR community. This is very much a story about Black peopleโ€™s business.

Iโ€™m reminded of the people I grew up around that believed 100% of Indigenous folks were eradicated during American colonization. Many probably still believe that to this day.

If youโ€™re not making it โ€œcoolโ€ rn to learn & read, the kids wonโ€™t do it. And this will be what becomes of true history.

Have people discussed how rage baity Threads is as an app?

Every time I click onto it, thereโ€™s someone new folks are mad at, something to cry about, or another current event for my growing list titled โ€œThings That Trigger My Anxiety.โ€

I dunno if itโ€™s the same or worse than Twitter.

A book review graphic for Flamboyants by George M. Johnson made by @dbg.was.here on Instagram. This is a young adult nonfiction of illustrated biographies, 144 pages long and 2 hours in audiobook format. The featured quote is โ€œThe reality, however, is that queerness is as old as heterosexuality.โ€ The summary reads: "Trans and queer people didnโ€™t appear out of nowhere in the last 30 years. Weโ€™ve always been here. Just take a look at the Black revolutionaries of the Harlem Renaissance for proof. In Flamboyants, we celebrate fourteen Black LGBTQ+ icons and artists who lived boldly so generations after them could thrive. As Johnson expresses, โ€œhow do you know where you are going if you donโ€™t even know where your people have been?โ€ My verdict: Get in loser, weโ€™re inspired! Encouraging, informative, candid.

The slide details a bulleted list of โ€œwhat I learned,โ€ which reads: โ€œThe Harlem Renaissance, when Black artists took risks following WWI, was one of the queerest periods in world history. Learning about Alain Locke and Richard Bruce Nugent, two gay Black writers who should be revered as legendary voices. Ballroom has been around since the 1800s! Langston Hughes wrote about a ball with cross-dressing attendees.โ€ At the bottom, it reads: Did you have a different takeaway? What were your favorite parts? Iโ€™d love to know what you think. If youโ€™re interested in constructive discussion on any of the books Iโ€™ve shared, meet me on Instagram.

Celebrating legendary Black leaders who were mistreated or forced to hide in their time. Meeting Zora Neale Hurston, a Black writer who has had a recent resurgence among Black visionaries after being nearly erased from history.โ€ At the bottom, it reads: you check this out? Letโ€™s be clear: Black queer history IS Black History! Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed.

George M. Johnson said, โ€œWe are too disconnected from our rootsโ€ and they're right. Flamboyants is a great start toward correcting that. (1/3)

Most Black folks knew this nonsense was coming. It's wrong, but we've always had to hustle, so I feel like collectively we'll be all right. But I also can't help thinking that a whole lot of white people, deprived of the "DEI" excuse, are about to get a wake-up call about their own mediocrity.
