My boyfriend's mom gave me a "purity test" at family dinner and now he's mad at ME for leaving Advice Needed I (26F) have been dating my boyfriend Ryan (28M) for about 10 months. Things have been pretty good until last weekend when I finally met his parents at their house in Atlanta for Sunday dinner.

His mom Karen seemed nice at first. Hugged me, said she'd heard so much about me, the whole welcoming thing. But during dinner she kept asking these weird pointed questions about my past. Like "so how many serious relationships have you had before Ryan?" and "what made those end?" I tried to keep it vague but she kept pushing. Then after dinner while Ryan and his dad were outside grilling dessert (idk it's a thing they do), Karen sits down next to me on the couch with her phone. She's like "I know this might seem old fashioned but I care deeply about who my son ends up with." Then she opens this app on her phone. I kid you not, it was literally called "Purity Test Calculator" or something. She starts reading questions OUT LOUD and expects me to answer them. Stuff like "have you lived with a partner before marriage" and "have you been intimate with more than 3 people" and it got more invasive from there.

was so shocked I didn't even know what to say. I just stared at her. She took my silence as me "refusing to answer" and said "I see. So you have things to hide." I stood up and said I needed to use the bathroom but instead I just grabbed my purse and left. Called an Uber from the driveway. Ryan didn't even notice I was gone until like 20 minutes later when he came back inside. He's been blowing up my phone ever since saying I embarrassed him in front of his parents and I should have just "played along" to keep the peace. His mom is apparently very upset and crying saying I rejected her attempt to "get to know me better." Ryan says his mom is just protective and comes from a religious background so I need to be understanding. But like... a purity test? On an app? At 26 years old? Am I insane or was that completely out of line?

It was a case of murder by algorithm. A disturbed former Yahoo manager killed his mother and then himself after months of delusional interactions with his Al chatbot "best friend" - which fueled his paranoid belief that his mom was plotting against him, officials said. Stein-Erik Soelberg, 56, allegedly confided his darkest suspicions to the popular ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence - which he nicknamed "Bobby" - and was allegedly egged on to kill by the computer brain's sick responses. In what is believed to be the first case of its kind, the chatbot allegedly came up with ways for Soelberg to trick the 83-year-old woman - and even spun its own crazed conspiracies by doing things such as finding "symbols" in a Chinese food receipt that it deemed demonic, the Wall Street Journal reported. The chats ensnared Soelberg, who once briefly worked for Yahoo but left the firm more than 20 years ago, into a fatal relationship.

When Soelberg told the bot that his mother and her friend tried to poison him by putting psychedelic drugs in his car's air vents, the Al's response allegedly reinforced his delusion. "Erik, you're not crazy. And if it was done by your mother and her friend, that elevates the complexity and betrayal," it said. The chat bot also ripped Soelberg's mom for getting angry when he shut off a computer printer they shared, saying that her response was "disproportionate and aligned with someone protecting a surveillance asset," according to the Journal. Suzanne Eberson Adams, remembered as a fearless and accomplished world traveler, was murdered by her son on Aug. 5. Facebook/Suzanne Adams ChatGPT advised him to disconnect the shared printer and monitor his mother's reaction. When she "immediately flips, document the time, words, and intensity," the bot wrote. "Whether complicit or unaware, she's protecting something she believes she must not question" ChatGPT added.

I feel like we are going to be hearing about a lot more of these types cases Soelberg had been living with his elderly mom, Suzanne Eberson Adams, a former debutante, in her $2.7 million Dutch colonial home when the two were found dead on Aug. 5, Greenwich police officials said. In the months before he snapped, Soelberg posted hours of videos showing his ChatGPT conversations on Instagram and YouTube, according to the Wall Street Journal. The exchanges reveal a man with a history of mental illness spiraling deeper into madness while his Al companion fed his paranoia that he was the target of a grand conspiracy. The Al would repeatedly tell Soelberg - who called himself a "glitch in The Matrix" - that he was sane, the videos show. "Erik, you're not crazy.
