Clearly I have made the decision to venture into another social media platform. At this point in time I will only be making baby steps here until I become a little more familiar with how bsky works. It's hard to teach an old dog (yours truly) new tricks.

A pair of Yucatan Black Howlers (Alouatta pigra) sing out in their Maya Nut Tree (Triplochiton scleroxylon) home. Also in the canopy is a Blue Morpho (Morpho peleides) and a Mexican Hairy Dwarf Porcupine (Coendou mexicanus).

Working in conservation is a funny thing, especially when my study species are currently listed as Least Concern (but with Unknown Population Trends, and knowledge that their suitable habitat range is shrinking?)

Red List Status & Extinction Risk of the World’s Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises published in Conservation Biology showed that 1 in 4 cetacean species (26% of 92) were assessed as threatened (Critically Endangered, Endangered, Vulnerable)

Though nowhere near as expansive as human conflicts, brubafa warfare is well documented, particularly in Salotum’s Aputsum people. Rarely equipped in more than light armor, those of high status adorned their garbs with jewel beetles to further augment their opulence.

Water down - really loving this so far. This is the canopies of a Belizean rainforest (Maya Nut or Breadnut, Brosimum alicastrum) with bright green leaves and a bright blue sky. Critters are around here too, and I can't wait to get the bromeliads in too!

Really excited for this piece featuring Yucatan Black Howlers (Alouatta pigra), along with a Blue Morpho (Morpho peleides) and a Mexican Hairy Dwarf Porcupine (Coendou mexicanus) up in the canopy of a Breadnut (Brosimum alicastrum). This piece is made even lusher with the inclusion of many species of epiphytes "air plants" including several species of bromeliad. It was super fun to do research for this piece and I can't wait to paint it!

Brubafa are born less altricial than humans and gain motor skills such as walking within a few days after birth. For this reason, they can be quite a handful for parents and caregivers!
