As 4 PhD students leave for internship (π), @stresslab.bsky.social is excited to welcome 3 PhD students: Andrew Rolles, Dominique Sheldon, Jeniska Rivera Galarza.
Excited for this dream team to bring new ideas & energy to the lab. I couldn't do it without the support of @benjaminwkatz.bsky.social!
So (so, so, so) proud of Dr. Reina Kiefer for successfully defending her dissertation! Reina's work reflects an unwavering commitment to women who have experienced college campus sexual assault and will undoubtedly have a meaningful impact on their lives.
We are so grateful for your support β€οΈ
I don't recommend it π Fortunately, this group made the process smooth/easy.
Congratulations!!! @katherineaberry.bsky.social
Congratulations to @stresslab.bsky.social graduate students on a successful match day π₯³

Celebrating this amazing group of scholars. Lots of emotions -- proud of all they have accomplished; sad to see them go; excited to watch what they do next and to welcome the next chapter of the @stresslab.bsky.social.
We are hiring four full-time research assistant positions. Please consider applying and share widely!
4/ Shout-out to project lead Brett Messman and co-authors Siyuan Wang Prathiba Batley Jennifer Newberry @atekac.bsky.social
3/ Our finding broadly provide psychometric support for using the 20-item PCL-5 in intensive longitudinal studies
2/ Results indicated lower but acceptable discrimination for PCL-5 items 8 (traumatic amnesia), 16 (reckless or self-destructive behaviors), and 17 (hypervigilance). DIF analysis indicated that Item 2 (nightmares) exhibited DIF indicating potential bias; however, the effect sizes were negligible.
Interested in using the PCL-5 to measure PTSD symptoms in your EMA study?
We conducted item analysis to examine item thresholds & discrimination parameters & examined DIF across daily surveys

2/ Compared to those without PTSD, individuals with PTSD were less likely to decrease opioid use over the 60-day period. Although individuals with PTSD were less likely to increase their engagement with opioid treatment, individuals with PTSD engaged in treatment at much higher levels.
π£ New Pub π£
Studied PTSD and opioid use across 60 days in people in the community who use opioids and have a history of trauma.
75% met criteria for current OUD
67% met criteria for current PTSD

We used the momentary DERS Measuring emotion dysregulation in daily life: an experience sampling study: Anxiety, Stress, & Coping: Vol 38 , No 1 - Get Access share.google/HDXgGHbiy4BA...
3/ Huge thanks to my co-authors @melissarschick.bsky.social Jillian Scheer Amy Stamates Alexa Raudales Reina Kiefer @atekac.bsky.social Tami Sullivan
2/ Findings suggest an important role of emotion dysregulation in modulating stress, and underscore the need for additional research in this area.

We captured 30-day emotion intensity & dysregulation data from EMA & examined in relation to cortisol (from hair) during the same period. Emotion intensity & hair cortisol levels were significantly associated among women with high (but not low) emotion dysregulation.
We're the lucky ones -- grateful for you!
Thanks to everyone who braved the early hour to attend our panel discussion on treating PTSD and substance use disorders!

Thank you!
Congratulations to you too!
Thank you!
Went to dinner last night with @heatherschatten.bsky.social & our new R01!!! We're using the BACtrack Skyn & EMA to examine the timing & mechanisms underlying alcohol use & suicide risk.
I'm excited to be doing work that matters with close friends (also @lesliebrickphd.bsky.social and Amy Stamates)
Congratulations, Reagan!!!
Congratulations to you and Amy (now my URI BFF haha), and thanks for sharing your journey. I've been patiently waiting on an R01 (2nd percentile score in 10/24, council moved twice and finally happened in 05/25, pending status 05/25, JIT 06/25, second JIT 09/25). This feels like madness.
Proud to empower our community through naloxone distribution on IOAD. Community engagement is more than research; it's action. @nicoleweiss.bsky.social @benjaminwkatz.bsky.social @hodiana.bsky.social (and many others!)
