The advice in the press release seems reasonable enough.

But for a virus spread primarily through the inhalation of viral particles, it feels like a miss to talk about gloves without also mentioning respiratory PPE.

A panoramic photo of a greenhouse. The glass is rendered in a calming blue, reflecting the white clouds above. The grass on the outside is a vibrant carmine. A photo of a brick building against a dark steel sky. The building's windows have a slight cyan tint to them. Bare trees look like wine-stained grape vines. Evergreen bushes move from oversaturated red in late afternoon sun to a dark, muted crimson in the shade. A panoramic crop of a group of campus hype men ("the morph suit guys") jumping, dancing and playing music across from two onlooking students sat in conversation. The composition pits the exuberance of the hype men against cool nonchalance or amusement.

Clothing appears on a white-to-pink-to-red spectrum. In the shadows of late afternoon sun, grass appears to be a more muted watermelon red. A panoramic photo of a student walking across a fountain circle on their own. Three quarters of the photo is in shade. Overhead clouds look to be a steely grey.

Test shots with a new filter stack from last Friday. Tiffen Deep Yellow 15 and a soft CPL.

Was very surprised to see how close these were to what I get with a triple bandpass + hot mirror + CPL and (sometimes) FLD filter.

Probably gained about two stops of light to boot.

A color infrared panorama centered on Alcatraz island, as viewed from Fisherman's Wharf. Puffy white clouds and vibrant teal sky contrasts against punchy carmine red foliage on the horizon, and the rippling cerulean waters of the bay. A ship can just be seen leaving from the island's eastern side.

One mile by eye, two with the tides of the San Francisco Bay...

Neat approach here to getting the benefits out of both point-of-care and laboratory testing approaches.

A 720 nm color infrared panorama of the golden gate bridge (rendered grey here against ghostly straw colored vegetation). The bridge, as well as fencing to the left and rocks to the right of a bay-side path create multiple leading lines across the image. A boat just peers out of the fog.

After a bit of searching, I believe they’re brine ponds. Nearby power plants are using them to carve away underground salt caverns for future butane, propane and hydrogen storage.

Microsoft has unilaterally decided checking my email off campus now constitutes "unusual activity". The option to use 2FA still exists, but sign-in codes are no longer being sent.

"Having trouble?" it mocks. "Try CoPilot Chat."

First preprint of the @pollyfordyce.bsky.social and @dunnlab.bsky.social collaboration! We used high-throughput microfluidics for sequence-strength mapping at the single-molecule level. Our new tech allowed us to discover a fundamental nonequilibrium property of multivalent systems. 1/13

A handheld long-exposure of a backlit waterfall sculpture. A couple stands silhouetted in front. A slight head turn to camera is just noticeable. Another figure stands on the periphery.

A photo of the total solar eclipse from 2024. Small pink corona lap out from behind the shadow of the moon at 2, 3, and 6 o'clock. A warm haze stretchs out even further. A small white dot of a satellite is just visible in the lower left of the moon. A shot of the skyscrapers in downtown Indy as the eclipse sets in, enveloping the city in early dusk.

Great shot! I took this one handheld from a park in downtown Indianapolis; a satellite is just visible in the lower left.

Something special to gathering around with hundreds of other people just to look up and wonder.

A black and white infrared panorama of the golden gate bridge viewed from a marina to the east. A small two-person sailboat carves a thin line into the black waters in the foreground. Fog envelops the bridge's northern support tower.

A digital color infrared photo taken from a plane overlooking orangey-red crop land, and deep-blue water treatment ponds. Puffy white clouds cast dark shadows over the top half of the image.

There is no sense in which a chatbot can "help" with your schoolwork by making it easier; if it is easier, it is less useful for actual learning (effortful practice is HOW WE LEARN) and therefore the chatbot has not helped, but has only hindered.

A monochrome infrared (720 nm) photo of the Coit tower in San Francisco from Russian Hill. The bottom half of the photo is shrouded in inky black shadows, contrasting with light-grey tree tops and puffy white clouds leading to the tower.

Lots of discussions about IR and NIR lasers today, so how about a photo from 720 nm too?

A bear cub stalks along a downed tree trunk with littered starbucks around it. Two bear cubs sit up in the strewn automobile wreckage and starbucks litter. Another angle of a bear cub surrounded by a sea of starbucks litter. The photo is cool-toned and looks like it could have been taken at a landfill. A closer shot of the two cubs gathered around their mother with more starbucks litter in the background.

Thank you to the animated Italian tourists without whom I wouldn't have noticed the scene unfolding below the road-side trail!

A color photo of a brown, black bear ears perked up behind broken branches and in front of wooden pallets and a broken truck panel.

In Nov. 2022, a truck careened off a mountain road in Tahoe, spilling 20 tons of Starbucks products down a wooded cliff (no injuries).

Visiting months later, the site remained a popular brunch destination for the local black bears.

A punchy black and white photo photo from an alley of a young man walking across the frame. A bus passes behind, spot illuminated by a nearby shop light. The text on the bus reads “It happens” with the spotlight and man’s head centered on the space between words.

How do you know when the ‘decisive moment’ is?

“It ’appens”

We found that while close contact contributed to elevated risk (rate ratio 1.16 per doubling daily time, 95%-CI 1.01–1.33), time spent in shared classrooms and poor air quality had larger effects (RR 3.17, 95%-CI 1.96–5.17 and RR 1.90 95%-CI 1.23–2.94) respectively).

Does targeting enzymes and substrates in a condensate lead to rate enhancement? No. Here, we investigate how the condensate environment can inhibit an enzyme reaction.

Spoiler: Mass-transport limitations. We find a strong correlation between diffusion and reaction rates.

Guys maybe the number one obstacle to organizing here in Minneapolis is the unfounded fear that if you get involved, DHS will put you on a list and assassinate you. It leads people to avoid organizing or act in ways that are completely detrimental to organizing. Please please do not spread that fear
