When once again on hallowed ground
She seized a palace from the Czar
Who swore to her eternal love
And gave her diamonds, gold and cats.

Three months upon the bounding main
While demons watched her back and swore
That no man would disturb her gaze
As visions wracked her left-hand path.

She chanced to steal the Sultan’s sword
And bugger off upon his yacht
With help from servants strong and true
From provinces her father ruled.

She stretched the truth to make it last
A trick she picked up in the souk
From merchants of renowned caprice
Who never even saw her face.

Clio at the Mixing Board

In times like these a clearer head prevails;
Look at the daily flow and just digress.
Like Clio at the mixing board in tails,
A chronicler in rhyme should never stress.
