REVEALED: Just 2,500 farms own a QUARTER of the farmland in England
Startling new stats I obtained from DEFRA & shared with @mirror.co.uk show how unequal land ownership is in this country
Large landowners must pay their fair share of tax

This is a graphic illustration of why we must make @bsky.app the biggest social media platform in the world, say boll**** to Elon Musk & send him packing. We CAN do it

Bluesky has grown by over 3M people in the last week — welcome!
With every wave of growth naturally comes an increase in moderation reports. Here’s a status report on how the Trust & Safety team is handling it:
An interesting thing about hashtags on Bluesky is if you click on a hashtag (on desktop; long press for mobile) on a user’s post or profile, you can filter to see all the user’s posts using that hashtag.
So if you share work on here, it’s a convenient way to catalogue all your work in one place
leak the fucking report, you all have 473 reporters on speed dial, stop playing by rules nobody cares about and embarrass these people by any means necessary
Genuinely MAGA guys… most people just say no to this question
Long before Musk’s takeover, historians outsourced our public sphere to a private corporation.
Now is a great opportunity learn from that experiment — or rather: that mistake.
Would there be interest in an online workshop on public history after X?
Another project I'm proud of is a long form video I made examining the development of the Gilgamesh/Bilgamesh myths, along with the tale's association with the Mesopotamian flood myth. I remember being terrified it was going to bomb whilst making it so I'm glad so many people watched it.
I’ve decided to leave Scientific American after an exciting 4.5 years as editor in chief. I’m going to take some time to think about what comes next (and go birdwatching), but for now I’d like to share a very small sample of the work I’ve been so proud to support (thread)

this guy sucks so hard that he can't get any friends, so he bought a site to make all the users his friends, and they left; and he made a robot to tell him he was cool and it instead said he fucking sucks just like we all know he does

Context: Elon Musk dislikes Scientific American’s editorial perspectives on social and climate justice, and has been fanning a targetted harassment campaign this week in an effort to silence the magazine.
It appears to have worked.

See? This is the sort of nonsense we used to enjoy.
Yet again, the due diligence of auction houses seems somewhat lacklustre:
Italian officials said they had dismantled a Europe-wide network of forgers and dealers selling works purported to be by A-list artists, mostly through auction houses.

I find it funny how many of his fans (both Rogan and Lex) call me "arrogant." It's like, nah, I'm summarizing the research of thousands of scholars when I present #RealArchaeology to the public, and I credit them
But, him saying he knows more than an entire field of study. That's real arrogance
Burgum is from fossil fuels. The trouble with “eff around and find out” is that not only people are going to find out - the National Parks and federal lands and their environments and its creatures are going to find out www.nytimes.com/2024/11/14/c...

Several years back I helped coordinate a live performance of GW2 music. My parents reluctantly came in an "I guess we'll endure this to support you" fashion. They were absolutely dumbfounded. "We didn't know it was like THAT". Performance link, just for fun: www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8nw...
Put video game music in symphony halls. DONT tell them it’s from a video game. Watch how they lose their minds.
