I could post a lot about the different characters & scenarios, how this feels like the nexus-point of so many humanist scifi of the time, how it feels like a predecessor to even very recent works like Heavenly Delusion or Fire Punch...

But instead I'll make the wise decision:

This comic really exemplifies how Ishinomori, at his peak, I find to be one of those creators whose storytelling sensibilities, pacing and conveyance just is kind of timeless & intuitive. You don't need to make as much of mental adjustment, as this could almsot be made 10-20 years ahead of its time

Since I haven't seen anyone brought it up yet, Ishinomori's Ryu's Road manga is phenomenal. It's from 1969 & doesn't feel its age at all.
I feel embarrassed as a fan to have taken so long to finish this, 'cause this feels like an unshakable cornerstone work & thesis statement.

What's going on? Nothing wrong with shipping but did people forget?

So... Do (anglophonic) people know that the LGBT themes of Moomin is about many things in the text, such as most explicitly Tiuhti & Viuhti, not just Snufkin & Moomintroll, which is mainly just a popular ship?

The worst are parts of TV Tropes where it actually gives you less info & context about works of fiction than their wikipedia page.

Like wtf is the use of a page for something like Orlando Furioso, if all it serves is to list shit like "has a What the Hell Hero Moment" & "Ur-Example of hippogriff"

... OK, so I'd usually have grumblings about how there's yet another new Moomins project that does not employ any Finnish creatives on the helm, but Rebecca Sugar is such a wild grab that it does mitigate those grumblings a lot

Its fine to have a unique ranking/category system & explain it, it's a whole other thing for it to last 20-30min total, with then each category rules detailed so thoroughly that the video barely has time to talk about all the episodes, before even getting to the question of how the eps actually are

Junk data, that because there is barely a standard, is also often just made-up on the fly. Its all vibes & subjective. Imagine if that Wikipedia's Scots language incident was evenly spread throughout the site to its very roots.
This is not even getting into the weird "fandom oneupmanship" mentality

To elaborate a little: I get that people like the Idea of TV Tropes but as someone who has also used it, its only ever as good as what you bring to it, like all fandom wikis.
But in practice it sucks at its job as a rule, 'cause its junk data & arbitrary rules added on impulse (& its proud of it)

I'd go as far to say that the entire "fan wiki" concept on the internet is 95% failure, if for nothing else than
'cause the of this mindset of writing "in-universe" fiction as the reality being the top-most priority while real-life writing context is treated as entirely optional

TV Tropes is What if a bunch of fandom wikia editors and people who wrote obnoxiously opinionated and pedantic anime blogposts and weepy tumblr pages wrote an encyclopedia, and look down on Wikipedia for being lame-o squares for having things like Sources and Citations and Actual Writing Standards.

I think nothing is more telling of the kind of person & general age demographic of this social media more than the fact how through just casual browsing I see many people actually appraising TV Tropes.

Tried to watch the Trope Talk video that was on my recs on Love Death and Robots episode rankings and this cannot seriously be starting with 30 minutes of exhaustively explaining their made-up ranking system & doing Genre Breakdown for Dummies.

The bag is sadly not very deep, and by the time the third or fourth cartoon sequence, the film really deflates because of it

Its strange how the film puts so much time and effort on its style, but mostly relies on rather rudimentary scares, rather than really evolve and elaborate its actual techniques sans a couple of moments.
