How much worse this will become as the internet continues to gentrify and corporatize as fascism escalates can only be guessed at, but I think the answer is in an aggressive return to physical media, relationships, and culture

This is one of the reasons so much of the discourse is so unfathomably disconnected from the material concerns of the most marginalized—for more people than ever before in history, queerness is something that takes place primarily mediated by a screen

Once upon a time you stayed closeted, found local acceptance, or moved to cities with thriving and specific subcultures. Now there are so many people who live second lives online as who they really are while remaining closeted in all ways that matters—it sucks to see!

The internet created space for people to put words to their queerness and find community where they feel they can't find it irl, but I worry this is a stopgap that keeps many in a kind of arrested development who would pre-internet be forced to go out and find in person community

I do not care that they detransitioned, and am happy for wherever anyone lands (as I have said many times, detransition is just another transition!)—I care that they detransitioned and are now talking like a transphobic asshole, and they deserve our derision for that.

I know “successful” trans writers who make peanuts for the immense hours they put in and work second jobs in food service. It comes off as both cruel and bizarrely jealous for someone who has also experienced (relative) success to talk like this, *especially* while identifying out of transness.

Nonbinary is trans so that’s weird, but regardless making a statement like this about “trans writers” as a person who once got a profile in the NYT and had a gallery show recently while saying they’re not trans themselves is out of touch and vile in and of itself and fully worthy of condemnation!
