video chat pen pals. check out greg and alex's "taskmaster" interview with jesse david fox on vulture!
that we were able to turn this into a dropout special, and thus share it with a bigger audience, is a huge professional highlight for me. in a streaming landscape where standup has been heavily commoditized, this is something else. this is art.
far be it from me, a fan, to say what the show is about, but to me it's about the way in which toxic masculinity - in all of its closed-mindedness - stands in the way of us knowing true love.
the show encapsulates the spirit of modern theater just about better than anything. is it...
- cutting and current cultural satire
- scripted as well as improv
- character comedy as well as clown
mark's, and his director joanna's, talents truly know no bounds.
one of the most magical things about the edinburgh fringe is getting exposed to acts and comedians that aren't already in your network.
imagine my delight as i showed up (late!) to THE BEST MAN SHOW and saw the tour de force that it is, and met mark vigeant for the fist time.
does this mean less original dropout content? of course not! we have a record number of new dropout shows right now in development, the fruits of which you'll begin to see this year.
stay tuned for this, that, and more! πΊ
...by which i mean put more shows on dropout that we think are...
(a) uniquely great
(b) perhaps even underexposed
shows like SUITS LA (kidding, i didn't watch it, though i did watch literally all of og SUITS)
have or know a show you think we should consider? get in touch!
is dropout getting into licensing content?
yes, maybe, carefully.
as with anything we do, this is experimental -- driven by my love for the show as well as a great relationship with its creators. but if it works, we might do more things like it...
one of my all-time favorite weird and wonderful shows - DON'T HUG ME I'M SCARED - is now on dropout!
full web series now; TV series (which less people have seen) over the course of the next few months. big thanks to blink industries, becky, and joe for their faith in us.

introducing dropout 24/7!

season 4 features vic michaelis, anna garcia, jiavani, hannah pilkes, and vivian wilson among others!!
catherine also makes her first ever dropout appearance in game changer season 8 this summer π€Ή
(i don't think any other path would have transformed catherine into "famous lesbian catherine mccafferty" as a stranger recently called her in a bar. π)
while there's nothing wrong with wanting more conventional success, remember:
"the traditional path is no longer than traditional path." - vinh giang
catherine has proven what so many creators can and should learn:
that the most authentic version of you has the potential to capture a unique a unique, underserved, and dedicated audience.
i'm so extraordinarily proud of my friend catherine and what's she's accomplished with this web series, which has completely transformed her creative career.
proud as i am of dropout, too, i love that the internet has the potential to support fully independent creators.
