Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

and there, beneath it all, are our lives left to live. with our hearts broken and our grief on our sleeves, our late nights and our music we make. we move, despite ourselves. we shift, inside ourselves. we love. we drift between clouds. we hold space for more of one another. we weep.

I remember the first time I heard Satie, it was in a movie about a peasant uprising; ever since I’ve loved his music but I can never remember the name of the movie.

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

What do James Baldwin's clothes tell us about him? | American Masters | PBS James Baldwin's wardrobe was a form of code-switching, a sartorial dialect he adapted to navigate different worlds.

This piece by @dieworkwear.bsky.social is just super thoughtful and full of revelations. Love.

Oh look, the former executive chairman of a media platform which advocated for white supremacy giving a nazi salute. How surprising you can’t find the words to describe this properly.

A shadow war on libraries Some Canadian politicians and influencers, inspired by an American-born movement, are trying to roll back 2SLGBTQ+ rights in Canada β€” one book at a time.

Alberta needs to be talking about how the same tactics being used to spread misinformation, bigotry, and censorship down south are in full force here as well:

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of I Am Somebody (1970) β€œSoul power! I may be black but I am somebody. I may be poor but I am somebody!” I am really blown away by the simple potency of this short documentary. The necessity for union organizing, for screami...

A short and amazing 1970 documentary directed by a black woman about the revolutionary actions of black women hospital workers in Charleston who unionized and went on strike. Very powerful and available to watch on YouTube. I wrote a a few paragraphs about on Letterboxd. boxd.it/8Km4FT

I’m a part time librarian and I just want to echo what I’ve seen other librarians say recently: there is a HUGE uptick in requests for social justice, climate justice, abolition, history, etc books and I just want to say nobody is giving up the fight. If anything people are fighting harder #library

David Lynch said it’s cool, actually, to eat the same thing every day bc then you can focus your energy on the important stuff. By this logic, I’m declaring that it’s cool, actually, to have a closet that looks like Doug Funny’s, but with identical black jeans, black sweatshirts, & Godzilla tees.

Opinion | Libraries can help end the culture wars. That’s why they’re under fire. Nothing threatens authoritarianism like a free, quiet place to absorb a full range of information.

We are about to enter an era of extreme and dangerous culture war in the United States. How do we protect our communities and work toward a cultural ceasefire? In this piece I wrote a couple months ago, I offer one possible path. wapo.st/40q1BDn
