I did absolutely fuck all (or is it fuck-all?) today except snuggle these ridiculous(ly adorable) dogs. we did just take them on a walk & it’s so nice out!
our beloved wee Monty died aged 16 just 5 months ago & a thing I was somehow completely unprepared for these past few weeks was the fresh new wave of grief that’s hit. I’m not sure we deserve dogs & I feel very lucky to have known & loved some very special ones. (I think all dogs are very special.)
we adopted Charlie 3 weeks ago yesterday. he’s very friendly & has a charming spring in his step! likes: sitting on shoulders, barking at squirrels, snuggling. dislikes: storms. he has some health issues. he’s very grumbly, in an adorable way. we think he’ll keep us. ❤️
The most useful political distinction to pay attention to in my experience is asking whether children and young adults are most likely to suffer harm from people inside or outside their family. Only people who say “inside” are sensitive to power dynamics that matter

Hey, if you're feeling like life has passed you by and you're too old to start something new, remember that John Brown was 55 before he killed his first pro-slavery settler in the Kansas Territory. It's never too late to follow your dreams.

The utterance of "A.I.'s inevitability" is one of the most stark pure performatives I've seen in my time working in higher ed. Every time it is uttered, it is clearly not reporting a fact about the world but instead actively trying to create the reality it narrates. We can and must refuse.
ooh the streetlight is out again!

As these teens describe, AI can diminish human relationships; devalue art; threaten the environment; lead to laziness; give unreliable results; pose privacy concerns; and be misused.
So, please, stop with the narratives of inevitability and let's embrace a pedagogy and politics of refusal.

pleased to report the streetlight across from our house is still out.
Can anyone very kindly help? I'm trying to locate a copy of an obscure 19th century American art journal: "The Studio. Devoted to Art, Artists, and Their Friends." Vol. II. No. 41. Published in New York, October 13, 1883. Just need to look up a reproduction of a painting in the journal.
no! & neither did I! I do regularly fantasize about disabling the horribly bright dusk-to-dawn light in our neighbor’s backyard…
the streetlight across from our house is out & I am not sad about it.
