Multiple DOJ officials, including Ed Martin and Jonathan Gross, have promoted the idea of reparations for former Jan. 6 defendants.
One former Jan. 6 defendant, Jared Wise, was hired by the Trump DOJ. Wise called the police βNaziβ and βGestapoβ and urged rioters to βkill βem.β
In response to questions from Sen. Hirono, AG Bondi says she has not participated in discussions about setting up a βcompensation fundβ for former Jan. 6 defendants.
Bondi declined to answer whether she would approve such a fund.

Screenshot of post on X from VA Secretary Doug Collins. The text reads: @ProPublica is an extreme liberal news outlet that will do anything to make the Trump Administration look bad. But this week, the far-left editors there reached a new low by sending @VernalColeman to stalk @DeptVetAffairs employees at their homes. This creepy behavior will discourage good people from coming to work at VA. @ProPublica, please do better and stop letting your hatred of the Trump Administration continue to warp your judgment.
It's a journalist's job to ask questions of government officials, no matter which party is in power. That often means respectfully knocking on doors to get answers people deserve to know.

These comments are in keeping with Trump's track record on far-right extremism, including g telling the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by" in 2020; issuing mass pardons to Jan. 6 rioters, even the most violent; and hiring at DOJ a Jan. 6 defendant who urged rioters to "kill" police.

Not really that unusual for D.C. to go seven consecutive days w/o a homicide. Happened in May and March (16 days, actually), last September, last August, last April, last March, last January. Plenty of 6-day stretches in there too. No homicides between 7/12 and 7/19 this year.

βIt is reprehensible to hear (@mayorgreenberg.bsky.social)'s press secretary speaking with such contempt toward a reporter and attempting to bully him simply for asking questions,β the SPJβs board said. βIntimidation of this kind undermines democracy and the public trust.β
