June 15th marks two very important moments in Joyce’s life. In 1904 he messaged Nora to ask why she hadn’t shown for their date the previous day.
Then in 1914, Joyce’s first novel, ‘Dubliners’, was finally issued by Grant Richards Ltd. In London.

June 14th should have been the day Joyce and Nora had their first date. They had arranged to on Merrion Square. However Nora never showed up!
On June 15th, Nora agreed to meet instead on June 16th.

June 10th 1904 is remembered as the day James Joyce first met Nora Barnacle. The encounter happened on Nassau street in Dublin. Joyce was captivated and Nora thought he might be a Swedish sailor.
They agreed to meet on June 14th at the home of Sir William Wilde on Merrion Square.
We will be launching SandycoveAtlas.com . Did James Joyce borrow this Atlas and use it as a ‘mother of memory’ in writing Ulysses? Why not have an advance look now?

Join us at the GPO Museum for 2025’s Bloomsday Festival. On Saturday, 14th June we will be holding a number of talks on Dublin in the time of James Joyce, exploring elements of the city that would have inspired and, at times, maddened the writer, particularly in the early 20th century.
People actually think this dodgy, cartoonish photo of James Joyce visiting the Joyce Tower and Museum over the weekend, could be fake! What’s the world coming to?
The sun is out and the James Joyce Tower is open from 10am. Come in and meet our wonderful volunteers, hear about Joyce’s time in Sandycove and see the incredible views from the roof.
