Bloomington police announce arrests in sex trafficking bust: "Rashad Johnson out of Maple Grove. This is the most disturbing arrest that we've had here. He is a backgrounder for ICE, Homeland Security, and federal agencies."

"Geo" shared this vid from where he's picking oranges. "Our sacks weigh 60 pounds when full. We start at 11am - after after the dew dries and work to 5. We earn $24 per 900 lb bin. It's hard to pay our bills with this pay and reduced hours because of the morning dew." #WeFeedYou

Sometimes very hard not to feel like the rest of the country has abandoned Minnesota. We STILL have ICE everywhere. Our schools, businesses, and economy are in profound crisis. But without Bovino here throwing tear gas, much of the country seems to not care at all what’s being done to us.

The eyes are the lamp of the body. People usually see and judge others by their own intentions and actions. People of good will working to repair the world will assume the best about others. People who are lying, cheating and scheming for power and pleasure will see malice and bad faith everywhere.

A close adviser to Mayor Eric Adams was suspended from his campaign after trying to give a journalist cash inside a potato chip bag.

They say phones only make us miserable but I just got this news alert and laughed for a solid minute so who is to say

There is no moral equivalence between bullies and the bullied, between tyranny and democracy, or between brutality and decency. No individual can be free in a society devoid of justice. There can be no liberty where brutality reigns.

it is incredible to see the extent to which the Sensible Centrists are simply incapable of grasping the very simple and obvious fact that the president's concern with crime is a pretext, and that to deny claims of a sudden epidemic in crime is not to say that crime is nonexistent.

LEFT: Where our government incarcerates a person who has a tattoo in honor of a family member.

RIGHT: Where our government incarcerates a person who has facilitated and/or engaged in the sexual assault of over a thousand children.

The core tenet of motordom is that the convenience of the driver must be prioritized over all other considerations including the health, prosperity, safety and even lives of other people; especially those traveling outside of a car. This hegemony is baked into policies and engineering standards.

Just my luck that Derek Guy starts to weigh in on something other than menswear and it’s not women’s wear. 😭

Anyways, he’s as good at architecture as he is at fashion.

There are so few places in the United States, even in older cities well served by transit, where it is possible to walk without continual exposure to noise, pollution and risk of blunt force trauma from automobiles.

Pedestrian/bike only infrastructure is the best way to protect people from cars.

"We're all throwing dildos at women athletes to promote our memecoin" really puts a fine point on not just how sexist, mean and stupid so much of right now is, but also the grim degree to which we're just inundated with Stuff a 15-Year-Old Dipshit Would Think is Cool. A confederacy of Beavises.

In the US we can’t even rationalize agricultural water policy so I don’t see this happening.

As an alternative, discouraging lawns and encouraging pollinator plants (or human habitats such as ADUs and apartments) would go far in supporting local bee populations and preserving their habitats.

We should have the House right now. Let me say it again: we should have the House.

This ain’t just a Texas problem, it’s a national problem. They’re stealing seats to keep power, and that’s how we ended up with Speaker Johnson instead of Speaker Jeffries.

They can’t win fair, so they cheat.

Cadillac Desert is my top recommended book for anyone in California because it quickly brings two profound realizations:
1. Everything around you is an amazing and rickety engineering marvel
2. All of the seemingly unfixable problems with it evaporate if we simply stop massively subsidizing ag water

Think about what the GOP is revealing with their attempt to suddenly change the Congressional maps: they know their agenda is so unpopular that they're going to lose unless something changes.

Of course, what they should be changing is their policies, not the maps.

Bove misled lawmakers about his actions in NYC mayor case, evidence suggests The details from a whistleblower complaint emerged hours before a final vote on Bove’s nomination to a federal judgeship.

NEW: We now know what Bove lied to Congress about according to the 3rd whistleblower. He lied when he said he didn’t offer promotions for DoJ lawyers who helped him dismiss the Eric Adams case and consequences for those who didn’t. There is audio evidence. Gift link: wapo.st/4fdVVmX

This take is correct. In California, the true third rail of politics is rationalizing agricultural water policy.

I’m not an activist, but as someone who reports on people who are, I see some activists sneering at people who are late to a cause they’ve fought hard for. Surely the point of activism is pitching to the centre to make change? Not alienating or mocking those whose minds you surely wanted to change?

Incredibly crowded street on Chinatown with tons of people in the street

Without street parking and car traffic, Chinatown is more like a ghost town with people having no other way to access all the businesses. This is not a sustainable model.

Can you do a thread on stretch fibers and tailoring? Many beautiful, natural fabrics are devoid of stretch fibers and I feel like the stretch is a big part of what makes modern clothes so comfortable.* Is there a way to get comfort without the stretch?

* Why the entire country lives in yoga pants.

trump is first and foremost a vehicle for delusional extremists — most of whom are total mediocrities — to impose their ideologies on the country, with vought as a paradigmatic example
