July 9, 131 CE: During the Bar Kokhba revolt, a Jewish woman, Babatha, hid in a cave (=cave of letters) with resistors near the Dead Sea & buried an archive of papyrus docs. In it is a court summons to her & his ex(?)-wife for this day about her dead husband's estate. www.trismegistos.org/text/23506

Spouse: we are having asparagus
Me in my head: no, we are having asparagī or asparagoi. I love that ἀσφάρᾰγος just means plant shoots and that’s why it’s called asparagus. lol etymology!
Spouse: … ?
Me in my head: Don’t say it. No one cares about your obsession with plurals.
Me aloud: “cool!”

OFF THE SHELF | Book on Jews and pigs roots through ancient taboo
“Forbidden: A 3,000 Year History of Jews and the Pig,” which just won a Jewish Book Award, explores every aspect of this non-relationship.
“Forbidden: A 3,000 Year History of Jews and the Pig” by @profrosenblum.bsky.social demonstrates how the pig — as animal, metaphor and lunch — has shaped how Jews understand themselves and how others view Jews.
