Yeah i think you really do have to be a stodgy stick in the mud about universalism because it’s the only way to avoid getting infected with this kind of thinking. You can’t have “as a treat” carve outs for why *this* ethnonationalism is different. No matter the context.

I miss Joe Biden's dog that bit people. It felt good having someone in the White House I could identify with.

right, like, don't offer up tax cuts, gin people up about the fact that wealthy people pay way less in effective tax than the rest of us, and keep the fight there. don't voluntarily give up revenue ground.

it feels like a lot of Dems are suddenly trying "we can run a robust social safety net by only taxing rich people and corporations" messaging and that is

a) not a great message, in that we should all contribute

b) not actually true, math-wise

This is the correct take. Also "McDonalds Revenge" is a term I'll be employing in the future.

It's only "understandable" to people who see Muslims as lesser human beings with an inherently broken moral compass. You're talking about this guy like he's a dog who bit a man wearing a large hat. I think that terrorism apologia, Hamas apologia, etc. are an especially malignant form of Orientalism.

I'll admit it: I was genuinely a guy who, when murphy vs ncaa was decided, thought sports betting legalization would be basically fine and not cause any major problems and I was wrong about it.

“Republicans have repudiated Christ to the point that we can accurately call them heretics” is a thing that sounds melodramatic but is actually true.

The bottom line is Trump sacrificed 8 American lives (& counting) and more than 1,000 Iranian lives (& counting) for nothing. He hurt the US & global economies, destabilized the Middle East, & will pull out with the same Iranian regime in power. There's no silver lining.

A senseless, criminal waste

Things look grim in the markets right now, but at least the U.S. economy wasn’t already being propped up by a massive speculative AI bubble that is highly sensitive to rising energy costs.

Pete Hegseth's murderous buffoonery, coming amid a lifetime in which he's betrayed everyone close to him and failed up from one disaster to the next, is a perfect example of how the appeal of Trumpism is that it creates a permission structure for people to openly be their worst selves
