I have read 10 books so far this year, which is absolutely wild to say I used to hardly make to through 1. I always loved to read but I forgot how; dyslexia and attention span.
I’m finding so much joy in reading, it’s making me feel lucky to be alive. How blessed we are to live in a time of books.
The Wax Child - Olga Ravn
A doll tells the story of her mistress and friends who are accused of, and put to death for, witchcraft in 1600s Denmark.
Hypnotically written, with elaborate descriptions of surrounding nature. The whole book has such a great rhythm. The wax child is a great storyteller.
Nostalgia is a weapon. You don’t miss the early 2000s, you miss being a stupid child. You want to be stupid again. You want your parents to take care of you. You are 12.
She Who Remains - Rene Karabash
The most beautifully, and uniquely, written book I have read. For a short book the story-telling is almost unbelievably detailed and in depth; ancient traditions, family commitments and gender roles. Sad and dark, and incredibly poetic.
A really special book.
Comic people are also FILTHY. You hug your Mother with those hands?!

Don't make me tap the sign.
Blue Ticket - Sophie Mackintosh
Calla gets a blue ticket in the lottery, this means she cannot have children. This is sold as freedom. She builds a career and a life, but can’t silence the wants for a baby. So she decides to risk everything. Angry, harrowing. It goes directions I didn’t expect.
Also the Medieval are style isn't going away; knights, maidens, weird looking cats.
Always notice new trends when curation for Thought Bubble, this year? Spiral bound comics. Very 1990's.
This post is going around again so I will add this excellent resource: leavesubstack.com
I love books. I’m so excited to read these.

I’ve hand stitched a banner. V nice to have something to do with my hands that isn’t phone.
BUT the backing is so crinkled. I need to figure out how to flatten it before I can get some good photos of the whole thing.
I just had a very cursory look and couldn't find anything major. I know MOST big companies are evil, but maybe Patreon aren't specifically evil?? Who knows.
I think Patreon is more about growing a following somewhere else and sending people that way, than organically through being discovered there. But Dave just said there are issues with them too (haven’t looked it up yet though!)
Oh, is it!? Jesus Christ.
Patreon!
Please, no. I’ve blacked it out.
I do NOT remember that. Something bad must have happened.
Happy Birthday Pokemon, you made me who I am.
Who CALLS people?!
Picked two books from The International Booker Prize long list. One about gender, one about witches. Both sad, both dark 🔥
Anytime!
What a lineup!!! Looking forward to this.
This not being bigger news is unsurprising.
A man entered a Mosque with an axe, whilst those inside prayed. For this to happen during Ramadan is calculated and evil.
I hope the Muslim community of Manchester can continue to have a blessed and safe Ramadan.
