Fun fact— In America’s Eastern Hardwood Forests, including Indiana’s forests, there are more salamander species than in the Amazon Rainforest. There’s still so much to be protecting here, too.

It's our favorite place to be..

Polyporus versicolor is a common polypore mushroom found throughout Indiana and the world. Owing to its shape being similar to that of a wild turkey's tail feathers. This one has bands of black, blue, brown, and tan. It is also covered in a light frost.

The turkey tail mushroom is a joy in the largely colorless season that is December-February. It's always a visual delight and often a colorful one.

GOOD NEWS! The District Court of Southern Indiana has halted the Houston South Project with a Stop Work Order, ruling that the Forest Service failed to take a hard look at the environmental impacts to Lake Monroe, which provides water to hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers!

This is all thanks to YOUR advocacy and all the messages you sent to the mayor and city councilors!

The City-County Council passed the $1.7 billion budget on Monday evening, unfortunately, a proposed amendment to the move $2 million to protecting urban forests failed.
HOWEVER, the DPW plans to devote $4 million to the issue over the next four years. Still a win!
