A newer writer just reached out to me, asking me to confirm that I gave this "Book Marketing Expert" such a glowing accolade.

I'm pretty inured to these AI/phishing scams, but using my name and photo like this, talking about "Amazon optimization" to ripoff newer writers, has me fucking piiiiiissed.

Still think this would be cool - making a punk show flyer/shirt design out of my books. Here's the original design without the Random House titles.

Coffin Moon: A Novel “This is mind-blowingly good. A horror novel that will keep you awake long after you turn the last page.”—Stephen KingFrom the author of Fever House and The Devil by Name: a Vietnam veteran and his adopted niece hunt—and are hunted by—the vampire that slaughtered their family.“Grabs you by the throat and doesn’t relent.”—Cassandra Khaw, author of Nothing But Blackened TeethA VULTURE BEST BOOK OF THE YEARIt’s the winter of 1975, and Portland, Oregon, is all sleet and neon. Duane Minor is back home after a tour in Vietnam, a bartender just trying to stay sober; save his marriage with his wife, Heidi; and connect with his thirteen-year-old niece, Julia, now that he’s responsible for raising her. Things aren’t easy, but Minor is scraping by.Then a vampire walks into his bar and ruins his life. When Minor crosses John Varley, a killer who sleeps during the day beneath loose drifts of earth and grows teeth in the light of the moon, Varley brutally retaliates by murdering Heidi, leaving Minor broken with guilt and Julia filled with rage. What’s left of their splintered family is united by only one desire: vengeance. So begins a furious, frenzied pursuit across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. From grimy alleyways to desolate highways to snow-lashed plains, Minor and Julia are cast into the dark orbit of undead children, silver bullet casters, and the bevy of broken men transfixed by Varley’s ferocity. Everyone’s out for blood.Gritty, unforgettable, and emotionally devastating, Coffin Moon asks what will be left of our humanity when grief transmutes into violence, when monsters wear human faces, and when our thirst for revenge eclipses everything else.

GAAAAHHHHH, sitting on so much great publishing news, but I gotta keep my yapper zipped for the time being. In the meantime, signed/inscribed copies of ALLLLLLL of my books are available at Broadway Books, and they do media mail shipping!

When my kid was 4, she made a shopping list of my favorite foods. Here we go.

Any 80s/90s kids remember Bohemia Afterdark? On super late, never seemed to have a schedule, but had CRAZY music videos that I always wished 120 Minutes would have. Like your friend's sketchy older brother or something, and just enthralling.

Not really looking for accolades, but after nearly ten published books, I’d argue the game IS for me. In fact, it’s the best game in town.

Just read a review of Fever House where the guy said, "If I met this author I wouldn’t even have advice I’d just say this game ain’t for you dude."

And yet, somehow, I soldier on.

24 years old, bruuuuutally hungover, wearing a brown leather sport coat ala Jim Rockford. I interview for a phone psychic job at this, like, call center-type place, and the manager tells me, “You don’t HAVE to be psychic to do this job, but we’ve found that it helps.” 👀👀👀

How lazy a dude was i? I was 19, living in a studio apartment with a Murphy bed, and I once spilled an entire box of Tide in a part of the room. Instead of cleaning it up - I didn’t have a vacuum cleaner - that simply became The Corner I Scooped Laundry Detergent From. For months. In a studio.

I once spent my last $3 on bus fare out to deep SE for a job interview to be a dancing bingo card at a bingo hall and the manager wasn’t even there when I showed up. The girl at Concessions gave me a free Pepsi.

@newamericanpress.bsky.social is a nonprofit indie publisher; I submitted an early version of Folk Songs for Trauma Surgeons to them a number of years ago (back when the book was called All That Business With the Heart), and it was a tremendous boost when it was named a runner-up for that year.

So each color is a POV. Calling this novel "Too Many Fucking Idiots In Here to Make a Cohesive Narrative," got a nice ring to it. Yeesh!
