An arranged collage of sketches by Trevithick, including the corner of a written page of notes. In the centre is a sketched book plate showing laboratory equipment and a microscope against the backdrop of an image of fungi. Above the image it reads 'Carpe Fungum' and below the image 'Ex Libris A H R Buller'. The top left collage is occupied by a black-and-white sketch of a Magpie Moth.

A notebook containing handwritten notes on lectures. One of the sections is titled 'The Mechanical Action of Rain' and goes into detail about the geological effects.

Recently, we came across this treasure trove again: notebooks and sketches by William Edward Trevithick (1899-1958), a gardener turned botanical illustrator and artist πŸŒ±πŸ–ŒοΈ

He would end up contributing around 60 plates to Curtis's Botanical Magazine.

A series of three graphs in a figure show the distribution of 127 fungal species over different biomes and the precipitation/temperatures within said biomes.

Dr. Andrew’s recent publication investigated climate-based triggers to fungal fruit body presence, finding 39% of 127 species were sensitive to further
climate warming 🌑️

This generated more questions than answers, which she'll be working on in her role at Kew!

This #FungiFriday we wanted to introduce you to our newest research leads in Kew Mycology! πŸ„πŸ§ͺ

Dr. Carrie Andrew just joined the Mycorrhizal Ecology group in Quantitative Mycorrhizal Ecology. In her research she's demonstrated that global change has, and will continue to transform fungi πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡
