Gladiolus flowers usually begin blooming in mid-August and can continue until mid-October. The mouse is perfectly framed between two stalks of wheat. The soft, natural light emphasises the delicate details of the mouse and its surroundings. The mouse's endearing pose make it memorable.

The enlarged photo shows the face of the butterfly. You can see its eyes and antennae and twisted snout, also its front legs. The part of the head between the eyes resembles a nose, although butterflies don't have noses. The rest of the body with the wings in the background is blurred and the background of the photo is also a blurred green.

The butterfly is probably a Pararge aegeria, the spiny eyelet butterfly. But virtually all butterflies look like this when you zoom in.

Stichtoleptura rubra, the red-brown longhorn beetle, a species with sex dimorphism, females being uniformly red-brown in colour; males having pale ochre coloured elytra and black head and thorax. So this is a male, scouting for females?
