Just under 30k total for the WIP.

Already 15% of the way through my word count goal for the month. I don't know what this means for the expectation of how long I THINK this first book is going to be. 🤣

Day 2 of First Draft November down and I'm checking in with 3547 from my morning writing sprint.

One of the major fruits of research is delight. Think of how often you’ve read about a discovery and really enjoyed it. Often the most pleasurable kind of news. Public delight isn’t discussed enough as one of the major outputs of funding research.

Beneath the Silvern Pond by M.A. Brown was an enjoyable novella with evocative imagery that left on teetering on the edge of the pond as well! Excited to see this one out in the world later this month!

Received my first ARC through NetGalley today and it was an atmospheric sapphic reimagining of the Frog Prince.

Attending a celebratory event for my local book store and it was a smashing success! 🥳

But it was so packed, you could barely walk around. This little introvert was immediately overwhelmed. I made it 20 minutes before I had to leave or risk crawling out of my skin. 💀

Happy November 1st everyone! I ended my morning sprint with 2461 words, letting me break the 23k mark on my WIP novel.

I'm currently sitting at 20k. My goal WAS to get through my first draft but based on my current pace and outline, I'd settle for 80k and 3/4 done.

My writing group has a nightly sprint planned with extra long blocks planned on the weekend. I'm so excited. ✨🙌

It should go without saying that these mass internment camps will be much, much more expensive to operate than just giving the homeless free or subsidized housing would be.

I also like the mechanic of PC death (again, still consensual) as a way of showing how high the stakes are within a campaign.

People joke about TPK at lower levels being bad balance but I think there can be a storytelling aspect here that shows people just how grimdark the state of the world is.

I've been thinking a lot about this lately too. As someone who believes PC death should be consensual and that as a DM you have EVERY manner of intervention to let them live if the player isn't ok with it. I.E. find what storytelling methods you're ok with to make it happen.

However...

Spent several hours today going back over two years of campaign notes as I prep to pick it up again. Was made even more excited when some of the players who had since taken a break expressed that they wanted to come back to my table. Gods, I love my TTRPG fam. 🥹💜

Spent a lot of time today watching reviews and critiques on RF Kuang's Katabasis after I finished reading it. I love when a community's take on a book is split. (In an actually intelligent and non-bigoted way.) That's how you know the discussions are good and it's worth examining more closely.

There are days when you never notice the degree at which life overlaps. And then there are days when you hear about the frog in the pot of hot water from two separate, disconnected places. Life remains weird.

The single best thing I've been able to do for my writing, was finding a small group of fellow writers to sprint with. The body doubling is everything for accountability.

No one can hurt me the way game masters and authors can.

Works in translation provide possibilities for wider understanding. For stories and readers to meet in places where once there were only barriers.
