‘How are you spending the last week of your maternity leave’
Using my last 2 KIT days for an ofsted inspection haha
4 weeks of maternity leave left. Reflecting on the best leave with my little family before I return for what is left of the summer term. Ready to get my maths head back on ❤️
Have you tried the gov.uk teaching vacancies site? I know more and more schools are using it
We don’t have the tech for a full class to sit an assessment never mind a whole year in one go and our internet is patchy at best. Not a chance surely
It’s coming in, whether I like it or not, but I would appreciate a chat if you have time on things to be aware of and pitfalls to avoid as curriculum leader x
Ark Maths Mastery, not in place within the trust at the minute. I’m hoping that there will be ample CPD but I’m wary with it being implemented during the academic year!
Up to now we have had a bespoke school curriculum that we wrote. The trust are buying one in and I just wondered what other people’s experiences were because I know there will be pros and cons for all of them.
What secondary maths curriculums do schools use? WRM, Oak, Ark, trust created or bespoke? What are pros and cons and how much autonomy do staff have? Is there any research into this? @markmccourt.bsky.social @mathsjem.bsky.social @jemmaths.bsky.social @informededu.bsky.social #ukmathschat

My argument is there are a lot of free curriculum models that do similar or better. Happy to be proven wrong though
REPOSTS APPRECIATED
are there any maths departments on here that have experience of the Ark Mathematics Mastery Curriculum. Seeking honest advice, either positive or negative feedback please.
Oh no, no, no. They haven’t applied for it. They have just been asked to do it. I have many more suitable staff. It is only short term, so I’m hoping there is no negative impact or undoing of work
This is on my maternity leave binge watch…
They teach maths but it’s not their specialism. But I think it’s bonkers. I wasn’t sure if I was over reacting
I’ve been quiet, I only have 4 weeks left until my due date and I am struggling to balance pregnancy, work and parenting. Some people are absolute machines. I. Am. Not. 🤣
I didn’t think it was available yet, but I remember reading a blog and then couldn’t find it!! Rookie here can’t have bookmarked it. Thank you so much. I’m going to bookmark the page today whilst I have the headspace x
Can anyone help me…how do I download the incoming year 7 SATs QLA? I know I can, and I know it’s not overly complicated but for the life of me I can’t find anything on it anywhere!
If I bought anything like that this early, I would have eaten it by Christmas 🐷
Haven’t set an alarm for weeks, I have a 2 year old so sleeping beyond 5.30am is a luxury. You know tomorrow is the day he’s going to sleep in…back up alarm SET!
It’s a tough one because the question feels vague to me. I think if students get a 3, they deserve the chance to resit but for those below a 3, I don’t believe resitting the GCSE is fit for purpose? An alternative perhaps?
I started my summer reading this and found it a really good read!
I’m in the never camp, also maths though…our trust tried to promote it and I experimented but it couldn’t do what I needed it to do, it is useless with designing maths questions!

You also sound like a fountain of knowledge 👏👏 congrats x

I’ve had a lovely evening listening to the #mathsconfonline sessions. Lots of food for thought and masses of questions to look through and consider for planning! Excellent as always. Particular thanks to @mr-man-maths.bsky.social @jwrightmaths.bsky.social and Maths Advance
Interesting…
On the fence…it would depend on other factors. I can and have taught without one, but now I feel It would be difficult without a visualiser as I’m a convert. I also like using mathsbot for visual representations of manipulatives and would miss that.
Omg 🤦♀️ no. That is definitely the baby brain. Now I get it haha
