LET THE FISH FRY PROCEED!

The "fish fry" happens before Creation in the play's cosmology. In that scene, angels of all ages are present (including an Archangel, angels and cherubs), along with "De Lawd".

Heaven is portrayed as a folksy, Southern-style "fish fry” with angels, cigars, custard, music - a setting meant to resonate with the cultural vernacular of rural Southern Black communities.
