No, I didn't realize he'd become such a pariah. I have long has issues with his occasional platforming (willful or no), but I did not consider him a bad actor.
I'm still not convinced, which gets back to my point: this is not a place for nuance.

Ack I'm blocked and can't link to it anymore. I don't have a problem with disagreement - it was the subtweeting I can no longer link to.

The issue wasn't replies to the post, it was subtweeting and the things people said (I was called a coward, for instance). I didn't mind the replies there.

Just not the kind of engagement I'm interested in, and anyone who knew me or the work I've been involved in the past few years would know that.

To put it in other words: after yesterday, I think I'm getting off Bluesky. It isn't worth the tradeoff for me. I think people on the same side can disagree about some things without some purity tests and moral outrage.

If this is the result that folks wanted, then they got what they wanted!

I have done A LOT of work trying to cull the bad folks from the various corners of this hobby that I'm in, and I don't really feel like I - or anyone - deserve the kind of response I got.

I think the subtweeting and dogpiling is not helpful. I also don't think there is consensus - platforming is bad, no question. But I still have yet to see any kind of evidence he has said or done anything bigoted. I am sympathetic with the argument that platformers tacitly (by will or no) support...

All of this information is new to me. One issue I have with all this is that not everyone knows everything, and when folks dogpile on top of someone posting a link it causes unnecessary drama.

At least that's how I felt after yesterday's "incident."

Yeah I think this is the deciding factor: after the red room incident people really started writing him off, which is understandable. I haven't given him much thought recently, I was sent the video and posted it without really thinking.

Oh for sure, I thought he had walked that back? Like I thought he simply didn't do basic research, then gave the money back when people got pissed.

Every area of the hobby has some wrong'uns, but outside of WW2 and grimdark wargaming, the OSR has the worst rep for being a safe place for fash to soft sell their ideas. This can't be danced around, and needs to be confronted and uprooted at every turn. No pasarán.

Yes, that's a solid point. It's interesting, I would never promote a Bryce Lynch review for precisely the same reason (his comments and forums are just terrible). I think the question is "where is the line." And that appears to be (for most people) a bit different than mine own.

I understand this logic, I really do. I think the distinction here is whether or not me linking to a review of my work by someone I don't agree with (who isn't explicitly a bigot) is similarly problematic.

I for one would not run for cover.

Anyway, I do get where people are coming from.
