2) Just as there is a spectrum of agency in all other forms of labour that includes labour by coercion, by circumstance (in which they would not do this kind of labour if they had better options), or by free choice, survivor choice in storytelling can be considered along a similar spectrum.
3) The Spectrum of Agency for survivor storytelling: Storytelling is by force, fraud or coercion, which is human trafficking. Storytelling is chosen based on circumstances (Most labor in the US falls in this part of the spectrum), in which it is chosen from limited options. You might hear someone who is working by circumstance say "I would not choose to share my story for money if I had better options." And Storytelling can by by enthusiastic choice, in which it is freely chosen from a range of options. Adapted from the National Survivor Network.
4) While we affirm the right of individuals to share their stories out of economic need, the number of survivors who choose to share their stories because of financial insecurity points to the need for long-term economic supports and stability for survivors.
Investing in the long-term economic stability of survivors decreases the likelihood that a survivor will feel compelled to share their story out of economic need if they otherwise wouldn't want to. View my full report: modernslaverypec.org/resources/to...

Returning (to) the power of authentic narrative
