Everything I learn about the new trigun anime makes it feel like it was designed to hurt me personally
I keep laughing at work imagining Severian in his very badass blacker than black cloak surrounded by Muppets

Driving an hour and half to go see the horsegirls movie in a theater was in fact worth it
12. Friday the 13th (1980)
Some real classic b-movie slasher stuff with a fun plot twist. It's always enjoyable to watch something where no matter you can see the care for the craft in the final product no matter how or where the flaws show up.
The fact that more often than not it really worked too. Like I think when it tried to land the themes and big reveals it could have had some stronger reinforcement in the lead up but outside that it's a very solid show and had my full attention a lot of the time.
11. The Big O (1999)
When this show is really in its groove it's some really excellent stuff. Definitely has some awkward storytelling and slower points but overall a good time. Dorothy is an all time favorite.
10. The Sword of the Lictor (1982)
Kind of a banger of a book. I think this one might be my favorite of the series, solid pacing and a constant stream of revelations or fascinating new experiences. Genuinely never a dull moment.
Every day is another day where I wonder what it'd be like if that kid hadn't fucking missed
people don't talk about this so much anymore but Denz *was* a talented swordsman
I was listening to some of the beats and loops on the Champloo ost and kept being surprised by like the jazz and soul samples that I am all but certain are not in the current broader lo-fi vocabulary
I could be entirely off base here but his sample choices are genuinely really good and it feels like everything else I've heard is emulating his personal style and not actually working in conversation with hip-hop and its source material as a genre.
Was listening to the samurai champloo soundtrack a while back and it hit me that perhaps the only notable name in the "lo-fi hip-hop" genre is still Nujabes because like, I have a suspicion the popularity happened downstream from him and is for and by people with much less love for actual hip-hop.
To be more fair to this movie, it's enjoyable and by no means bad. I've just also seen this director use the same style of film with Occult to tell a far more engaging story that actually stuck with me.
9. Noroi: The Curse (2005)
Should have just watched Occult again.
Yeah it's very easy to go do the digging, and find out who's who, but it feels absolutely foolish to just concede even minor barriers to keeping your privacy. The difference between being forced to hand over your texts in court and actively allowing the government to wiretap your phone just in case.
8. The Claw of the Conciliator (1981)
I think as a whole I liked the experience of reading Shadow better but there are some absolutely fascinating moments in this book that are equally as entertaining to chew over and think about as the stuff in the first one. Also oh my god Severian sucks.
Every now and then I think about a friend starting MSG 0079 and her first attempt to describe Kai was "the clocky one"
I found myself circling back to faith for utility spells in DS3 and ER a lot but never for like, the lightning or other ranged stuff. Int can be good if you really commit to it but splitting the difference always made me feel like I was losing out on damage.
Kills me that Beginning of A New Era getting a theatrical release in NA actually means I'd have to drive 5 hours to see it on a big screen.
it is apparently the 25th anniversary of the greatest piece of art Denton, Texas, has ever produced

7. Sensor (2018)
I'd put this one right up there with Uzumaki, doesnt hit quite as hard, but it's a lot of fun and pulls from a lot of new age and more contemporary spiritual supernatural ideas for its horror.
6. Remina (2004)
Some really striking visuals as always with Ito's work, but probably my least favorite of his stories that I've read.
Rumor: A 40th Anniversary Scrunt Celebration is Being Planned by Nintendo Instead of Zelda. https://ow.ly/yQ3W50Y9vEl
"Scrunt changed everything when it was released" - Shigeru Miyamoto
it's so deeply fascinating, I cannot stop thinking about all the scenes where he just says some random sentence or leaves in a remark from another character that just entirely re-contextualizes something from like 5 chapters ago.
5. Cosmic Princess Kaguya (2026)
A super modern spin on a Japanese classic from uhhh... like the year 800-some. A lot of fun expressive animation, all around really vibrant production. The sappy emotional bits were sincere enough to maybe work on me more than I'd want to admit. Very yuriful.
4. The Shadow of the Torturer (1980)
Very clever book that uses multiple layers of narrative perspective to make you slowly realize that you're reading the highly subjective memoir of a guy who might be actually the worst. And that's not even getting into setting it takes place in. Total banger.
