ABC News report: White HOuse ballroom construction to continue through shutdown, official says. Construction of the White House ballroom will continue throught the government shutdown, accoring to a White House official. “There will not be a stoppage of ballroom work when the shutdown occurs,” a White House official told ABC News.

Republicans say Ballroom construction is essential, but food assistance for women and children is not.

If the government shuts down at midnight thanks to the Republican funding crisis, the National Flood Insurance Program will not be able to write new policies. Banks won’t provide mortgages to buyers who are trying to purchase a home in a designated flood zone without flood insurance.
