I had always heard that somewhere in Eastern Europe there was a costume place (that was used because so many of the huge blockbuster films were made there) that could cater for thousands of actors film costumes... of any era.

I've reached the 'watching a Christmas movie' level....

Very much so... like they had 3 or 4 BM objects they had to wedge into a story, any story!

It was a real odd programme - seemed like a costume drama hung around a handful of wildly differently dated BM exhibits.

So in case of infamous Leominster hoard, where detectorists were sent to jail for theft, the landowner (whose permission had not been sought) received £776,250 - museum had to find the money to pay the landowner or the finds would still have been sold...

Something a lot of people don't realise is that, if something is illegally detected (so detected where finder doesn't have permission from landowner), the landowner still gets the 'reward' money from the find - in fact sometimes 100% of 'reward' money!

The oral evidence for the APPAG detecting inquiry (bottom of page here), from July, is really interesting - the museums and funding ones especially- a lot of middle ranking few £thousand items are slipping through the net more than the high £ ones.

Every museum is playing 'ip dip' with finds - places like Dorset will be getting multiple requests a year.

Which can they get funding for, which can't they? What can they afford? What do they have the time to do funding bids for?

Also, *even if* it is deemed to be National Treasure, unless a museum can afford to buy it (and Dorset clearly couldn't, hence why it was disclaimed in the first place) the licence will be granted in the end anyway - like the little torc in the piece is wrote....
