02.08.2025 11:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Mine was Silchester Insula IX. I found a silver coin on my first day (only time ever!). But what was more profound for me & will never leave me is the thrill of that tangible connection to the past, being the next person in x-many years to touch an object, be that a brooch or a nail or a pot sherd.
02.08.2025 10:36 β π 17 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Exactly this. π
02.08.2025 11:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh really? Yes it was. π
02.08.2025 11:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh that's great. And yes, a lot of folks started at CH.
02.08.2025 11:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Mmm back in the day. I think (hope?) things have changed a bit now.
02.08.2025 09:49 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, there's always something that catches us, isn't there? Mine was lunking great middle bronze age pots!
02.08.2025 09:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sounds fun!
02.08.2025 09:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah, I think i always knew it was what I wanted to do.
02.08.2025 09:19 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Aww that sounds lovely!
02.08.2025 09:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hi folks. For ten years I've offered the results of all my research for free, open access. I'm an independent researcher and have no funding, so all museum trips, research visits, writing up, conferences etc etc are funded by my scraping together savings and lecture fees etc. Thanks to a few recent changes in circumstance, this is getting more and more difficult for me to fully support and, even though I'll still be doing everything open access and always will, if you do have a bit of spare cash (...and really only if!!) buying me the occasional 'coffee' to support my gold research would be really fabulous.
I've set up a ko-fi account to try and fund a little bit of my gold research.
If (... and i really do mean if!) you felt able to send me the occasional 'coffee' that would be hugely appreciated. π

02.08.2025 08:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Brilliant! π
02.08.2025 08:22 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh my... did it work out??
02.08.2025 08:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Have a chat with your local museum - many museums are keen to offer opportunities to volunteers, but they aren't always advertised.
02.08.2025 07:55 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh really glad you got that opportunity... but don't forget, there's also loads of ways to get involved with archaeology without digging... e.g volunteering with finds etc is a great way to learn the different types of artefacts etc.
