25.11.2025 21:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah...I need that cosy Christmas sparkle...
25.11.2025 21:26 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sorry... I've confused you.
I had always heard that somewhere in Eastern Europe there was a costume place (that was used because so many of the huge blockbuster films were made there) that could cater for thousands of actors film costumes... of any era.
I've reached the 'watching a Christmas movie' level....
25.11.2025 20:49 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0Whack a chamfrein on it??
25.11.2025 18:41 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It used to be a thing that there was a huge warehouse of historic clothing that got used for anything period historical...
25.11.2025 11:52 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Hiya, sorry, no. ๐
25.11.2025 11:00 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Mmmm the Eastern European costume warehouses were clearly getting good business...

25.11.2025 08:22 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Very much so... like they had 3 or 4 BM objects they had to wedge into a story, any story!
25.11.2025 08:12 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It was a real odd programme - seemed like a costume drama hung around a handful of wildly differently dated BM exhibits.
25.11.2025 07:59 โ ๐ 16 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Seen it many times! Definitely worth a peek!๐
25.11.2025 07:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yup... it's crazy.
24.11.2025 09:31 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0There is indeed. Well worth a listen.
24.11.2025 09:21 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So in case of infamous Leominster hoard, where detectorists were sent to jail for theft, the landowner (whose permission had not been sought) received ยฃ776,250 - museum had to find the money to pay the landowner or the finds would still have been sold...
www.museumsassociation.org/museums-jour...
Something a lot of people don't realise is that, if something is illegally detected (so detected where finder doesn't have permission from landowner), the landowner still gets the 'reward' money from the find - in fact sometimes 100% of 'reward' money!

22.11.2025 13:19 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The oral evidence for the APPAG detecting inquiry (bottom of page here), from July, is really interesting - the museums and funding ones especially- a lot of middle ranking few ยฃthousand items are slipping through the net more than the high ยฃ ones.
appgarchaeology.wordpress.com/inquiry/
Every museum is playing 'ip dip' with finds - places like Dorset will be getting multiple requests a year.
Which can they get funding for, which can't they? What can they afford? What do they have the time to do funding bids for?

The other really irritating thing here is that we would be able to track this through the system, but the published TVC minutes are a year in arrears so we won't see exactly what happened here for another year probably...
22.11.2025 13:13 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Honestly, Miles, the system is so f*cked.
22.11.2025 13:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I am so far down that hole, and I still don't entirely have a handle on all of it.
22.11.2025 13:05 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Also, *even if* it is deemed to be National Treasure, unless a museum can afford to buy it (and Dorset clearly couldn't, hence why it was disclaimed in the first place) the licence will be granted in the end anyway - like the little torc in the piece is wrote....
