Looking forward to the day the UK, or its remnants, is a properly democratic (PR) republic within the EU.

Real police state stuff, pre-emptively arresting people in Defend Our Juries, because they are organising a peaceful protest.

Prison bosses make room for possible influx before planned protests across England Exclusive: Possible arrests at protests against Palestine Action ban and asylum hotels likely to stretch prisons

Let's empty the jails so we can fill them with octogenarians who care about genocide.
Because that's the real threat to society.

‘Self-termination is most likely’: the history and future of societal collapse An epic analysis of 5,000 years of civilisation argues that a global collapse is coming unless inequality is vanquished

For thousands of years, we have been parasitised, exploited and destroyed by elites. Our survival depends on overthrowing them.

So simple really. Do what the majority of voters (esp his) want:

Tackle tax fraud and evasion

Support the poor and sick

Create growth and have a sane policy on immigration by opening up to Europe

Tackle media bias

Introduce PR. Labour might have to share power but would always be in govt.

We have no chance of having a government that properly represents us without PR. Without it we will always have some kind of stitch-up.

Popularity sinking because they're heading in the wrong direction. So what do they do? Go harder and further in the wrong direction!

There's a complete absence of what I have always thought of as 'British values' in the current Labour government. Such a lack of compassion and empathy.

They really are strangers as far as I am concerned.

Excellent analysis of where we are. Completely mystified by Labour trying to act like a party of the far right instead of shedding their pathetic timidity and making the case for a more sensible and progressive approach.

Some of what they are proposing, e.g. social care visas, is simply madness.

Two things happen if you do this:

1. The immigration stats go down slightly. People who obsess all day every day about immigration do not notice or care.

2. Care homes are absolutely screwed because of staff shortages.

🚨🚨"A pro-European agenda can be advanced only so far by stealth. At some point, the time must come to win the argument. And that can’t happen with an argument that is never even made". Excellent column on #EUreset by @rafaelbehr.bsky.social:

'They don't'? Apart from the overwhelming majority of the population according to the polls.

Wrong on every count, apart from the fact my view of what the country needs probably isn't remotely like yours. Mine is to cut migration, boost business, employment and international influence by rejoining the EU.

Why does this government persist in going against everything the public want to see happen? It's not just anti-democratic but putting yet more money into the hands of the wealthy and ensuring our continuing long-term post-Brexit decline.

Money needs to be targeted on spenders, not hoarders.

I wish the international community - including our own leaders - would call out the blatant annexation of territory and continuing war crime of starving Gaza civilians with total blockade going on for 2 months now.

A government that makes decisions on the basis of what's actually good for the country and not on spurious assumptions about what might or might not influence voters at the next election - still years away.

Don't think that'll work, either. It's just giving them more publicity and credibility in the eyes of the disaffected.

You need to stop governing like you're election campaigning and start governing according to what's right for the country, e.g. SM and CU minimum, FoM to reduce immigration, etc.

Odd, isn't it, that Australians and Canadians vote against Trumpism but, meanwhile, here in the UK, lots of people look at the US and think 'Yeah, I'll have some (more) of that!'

👏 @andyburnham.bsky.social is absolutely 💯 correct ✅

“Let me say something about this situation. The biggest rupture in all of that [Farage/Reform gaining votes] – is Brexit.

I think partly, what Labour now needs to do, is talk more about Brexit, and how it has damaged this country’s prospects.”

Tony Blair Institute have released a report which is getting a lot of coverage in UK today

It says the drive for net zero emissions is flawed and some media outlets have gone to town

However it’s a bit odd

By odd, I mean there’s a lot of bollocks in it and shouldn't be taken seriously 🧵🧵

I feel increasingly disconnected from the party I voted for and had such high hopes for.

Did we give them a mandate to cos-play Reform-lite?

I want them to lead and argue for their vision instead of chasing polls.

Oh and charge me more income tax instead of penalising kids & disabled people

That was always Johnson's philosophy. Quite happy to sell anything, including himself, to the highest bidder.

It would finish them if Labour were not right in there promoting the same talking points, pursuing the same kinds of policies and playing right into the hands of Reform and the extremist wing of the Conservatives (all that's left).

Sir Keir Starmer is set to publish a white paper next month setting out the government's plans to cut net migration to Britain, with changes to the graduate visa route billed as an important part.
The move is part of his effort to head off the challenge to Labour from the rightwing Reform UK party.

Would very much like “heading off the threat of Reform/Farage” to STOP being the way government decides on policy. It’s done nothing but profound harm since 2016 and Farage is still going strong. It doesn’t work for anyone, except him.

Timid and pathetic.

All he needs to do is listen to his own supporters and voters. Rejoin the EU or, absolute minimum, CU &SM.

Dramatic improvement in trade, growth and influence in the world. There for the taking.

And, incidentally, boosting Labour's popularity.

Absolutely correct. They are simply promoting the far-right agenda, normalising Reform et al, instead of pursuing the objectives that their (former) supporters want and which would bring us back to being a prosperous, civilised European country once more. The vast majority would get behind them.
