The mechanisms of why that is aren't super well documented. But one factor could be that house sparrows compete with native species for nesting habitat: doi.org/10.1007/s109...

My proposal: “Previous studies conducted between 2004 and 2013 quantified the costs of P. downsi parasitism on nestling hemoglobin levels in G. fortis and G. fuliginosa (Dudaniec et al. 2006, Knutie et al. 2016)."

Reviewer 2: “For Aim 2b, do hemoglobin measurements for those two species exist from 2004? Presumably yes, as that is what is implied will be analyzed from Figure 4, but no details about whether these measurements have been collected is included.”

Especially frustrating is that the most critical review had a lot of incorrect/incomplete readings of my proposal.

Is this tested with medium coverage genomes (~10x)? Skimmed the paper and didn’t catch anything about validation across depths of coverage

Very proud to have worked on another paper exploring viruses in waterfowl. Wildlife disease can have huge consequences for human and nonhuman life, and knowing what diseases are out there is the first step in monitoring them.

To effectively teach to our diverse student classes, we have to acknowledge the culture they bring with them into our classrooms and teach responsively — yes, even in higher level science classes!!!
