21.09.2025 06:34 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's all foreshadowed in the opening with the Queen M and the wonderful Tom. Then when L returns he's a different man but still with lessons to learn. DD is so clever.

#Dunnett sort of but without the Princess π
16.09.2025 18:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The beach scene is so ... Poor Richard doesn't have any idea what he's dealing with (a theme lol) and as for L well he probably wishes he was back in R flying his ex eagle and this moment had not occurred - none of which is possible.
25.08.2025 12:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0DD is so clever in creating characters that are both incredible in their own right and perfect servants to the plot. And makes each loss so hard particularly for L.
23.08.2025 06:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0She'd have done much better without him!
15.08.2025 08:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As a Sidney fan (I feel he prob had Lymondish traits as in clever and difficult π)
'Sir Philip Sidney Courtier Poet' by Katherine Duncan-Jones and 'Philip Sidney A Double Life' by Alan Stewart
For Leicester 'Sweet Robin' by Derek Wilson.
Current read 'Fatal Rivalry Flodden 1513' by George Goodwin.
I wanted to write a novel featuring Philip Sidney but was too intimidated by his intellect and Dorothy Dunnett's writing to ever get going π best to know my place!
14.08.2025 11:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Love it. The home of the Sidneys. Sir Philip Sidney being my favourite Elizabethan! He wasn't a fave of Elizabeth despite his brilliance. She was obvs super close to Leicester π but the Sidneys don't seem to have been so favoured. Philip often ended up doing his uncle's dirty work.
14.08.2025 06:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm also coming up to fifty years from my first read through Lymond. A summer of long nights and sore eyes! 100% agree that every reread reminds just how brilliant DD's writing is.
05.08.2025 06:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think Going Postal is a good starter too.

As a Dunnett and Herron fan was so happy to see Quiller also mentioned so couldn't resist.

17.06.2025 05:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm pretty sure that @msagara.bsky.social is another Dunnett influenced fantasy author. Her 'Sun Sword' series is about as close as I've come to the experience of reading Lymomd and I feel sure Dorothy Dunnett was often discussed on her Yahoo group.
12.06.2025 05:25 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Like seriously who in their right mind actually wants to go the US/Trumpland.
05.06.2025 06:53 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0He played Darnley recently π
29.05.2025 14:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@spiderbill.bsky.social Hi, not sure if you're still playing the casting game but I have a couple for you.
Jack Lowden for Lymond
SiobhΓ‘n Cullen for Oonagh.

26.04.2025 15:53 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0She can break your heart! This captures him so perfectly and the foreshadowing in this moment ... It is magical.
19.04.2025 09:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Definitely pick up Dorothy Dunnett. If you love SP I feel sure you'll love DD!

The Lady and the Unicorn six tapestries woven around 1500 for the Le Viste family, merchants of Lyon. The set is on display in the MusΓ©e de Cluny in Paris and they are stunning.
