In regards to the orange graduation gowns, I saw a Tiktok where the Costume designer mentioned that they were going to be green but she conviced the creators to make them orange because they were going to clash with the grass and since both were colors of the school, they agreed.

I believe it's because Eddie (season 4) and Dustin (in the graduation scene in the finale) mention that you shouldn't conform with the status quo and that It was fine being different.
