You can be protective. In fact, I think you should be — again, regardless of gender. I believe that's one of the fundamental ways we express our love. But no one is truly a protector, because life makes it utterly impossible to be one. And I really wish that cisgender men would understand that.

And ultimately, the idea of being a protector is kind of silly, just being purely realistic. There are some things and people you can protect against. There are many, MANY more that you can't protect against. You do what you can, but in the end, what happens to your loved ones is out of your hands.

I'm so tired of hearing that men are natural protectors, that protecting is their natural role. It's... it's just NOT. Now, ALL people, regardless of gender, are protective of who or what they care about, certainly. And, tbh, I've witnessed many more protective women than I have protective men.

No, I haven’t, although now I really want to. I’d read the Wikipedia summary of the third Musketeers book, and my understanding is that, among other things, there is no love story between D’Artagnan and Anne, and Aramis’ coup totally fails, with poor Philippe returning to prison.

Stressed and depressed, but my hair was on point today, so we’re taking that as a win. 😅

There's an all-star cast acting the HECK out of their roles. Laurels all around! Gabriel Byrne & Anne Parillaud have so much chemistry with so little screen time together! Byrne is throwing everything he's got into D'Artagnan. He's doing a LOT of eye acting, & you will ALWAYS get me with eye acting.

I watched this movie for the first time last night. I was 8 when it came out, and it absolutely would have given me nightmares when I was a kid. I've actually never read the original Dumas books, and I know that TMitIM is not book-accurate, but I don't care? They still crafted a compelling story.

I'm currently obsessing over a version of D'Artagnan that exists more or less only in the 1998 film 'The Man in the Iron Mask,' and it hurts. He loves his not-quite-family SO MUCH, and he's absolutely unable to make anything better right up until the end. 💔

Copyright laws should change, probably. There's no reason benefitting even creatives why our works should stay in copyright for nearly a century after our deaths. That really does benefit no one other than corporations. So, sure, laws can change and be amended and better serve the people. (6/?)
