#polqc

People are churning butter on runs. We're sorry to be the ones to tell you this | CBC News Runners have discovered they can churn butter by strapping bags of heavy cream and salt to their torsos and running around for an hour. And yes, they're eating it.

No one understands the world better than those of us just trying to make ends meet!

Ffs, we *have* to pay attention —
we can’t afford to pay anything else!

The most efficient predator on Earth is in your backyard right now.

It's not the lion. The lion succeeds on 25% of hunts. It's not the great white shark. The shark lands about 50%. It's not the cheetah, the wolf, the eagle, or the orca.

It's a dragonfly. 95% kill rate. Ninety-five.

She intercepts her prey in mid-air using a hunting technique so advanced that military engineers have studied it to design missile guidance systems. She doesn't chase. She calculates an interception point — the future position where the mosquito will be in 50 milliseconds — and flies directly there.

Her brain processes the trajectory of a moving target while she is also moving, computing a collision course in real time, adjusting for wind, prey speed, and her own flight dynamics — in a brain smaller than a grain of rice.

She has 4 wings that operate independently. She can fly forward, backward, sideways, and hover. She can accelerate to 30 mph in one body length. She can rotate 360 degrees in three wingbeats.

She has been doing this for 300 million years. She was here before the dinosaurs. Before flowers. Before trees had leaves. Her ancestors had 2-foot wingspans and hunted amphibians.

She eats 30-100 mosquitoes per day. A single dragonfly patrolling your yard removes more mosquitoes than any bug zapper, citronella candle, or spray treatment you've ever bought.

And her nymph — the underwater stage that lasts 1-3 years before she becomes the adult you see — eats mosquito larvae by the hundreds. She's killing mosquitoes in two life stages.

The deadliest predator in your yard weighs less than a paperclip.

She's been at this for 300 million years, and she still hasn't missed.

Good news, everyone!

Iran’s military capabilities have been completely destroyed!

Except for the drones, the mines and the missiles they can use

(He apparently forgot about the 1 million or so troops Iran still has, plus tanks, munitions, and proxies but hey, who’s counting)

31-year-old asylum seeker Daphy Michel was released far from home without her family notified.

Three days after ICE put an ankle monitor on her, she was found unresponsive at a bus station and later died.

Her brother with TPS was waiting to bring her home.

ICE won’t answer basic questions.

This. Also Nurul Amin Shah Alam under similar circumstances in Buffalo. Also Emmanuel Damas dying from a sepsis due to untreated tooth infection after asking for help and care for two weeks. It doesn’t take a bullet to murder someone.

How an all-female fish species defies evolutionary expectations Asexual reproduction should be an evolutionary dead end. A study of asexual fish shows that a genetic ‘copy and paste’ helps to overcome the predicted costs of asexuality.

These are the first asexual vertebrate species known to science
