It just sucks that a conversation requiring this much nuance and sensitivity is ruined because one of the major words required for it now means like ten different things. It makes discussion online near impossible. Palestinians and Jews deserve better.

While I think my original point still stands, I do want to clarify that the majority of people in the Free Palestine movement are not knowingly antisemitic, and any attempts to claim otherwise are untrue and smear campaigns. Palestine will one day be free of Israeli oppression.

I'm going to add onto this thread by saying that the term "antisemitism" has absolutely been weaponized by the Israeli regime to deflect any criticism or accountability regarding Palestine or US Aid as bigoted. This majorly fucking sucks for any discussion regarding Palestine and helps no one.

The way Israels government and its supporters have weaponized antisemitism as a term does fucking suck. While I still stand by my thread, I also recognize that claims regarding the majority of the Free Palestine movement being antisemitic are bullshit and intended to harm people. You deserve better.

I sincerely wish this individual the best in choosing to block me. However, what sticks out to me is that I was complimented for my patience regarding their issues, but that patience was not returned when it was me doing something they didn't like. And to be honest? I deserve better.

To be clear, while insecurity and anxiety are not the FAULT of the individual experiencing them, as someone who was once at that point, it is the RESPONSIBILITY of that individual to work on it as they can. Because while my patience is long, it's not unlimited regarding cutting contact like this.

It's not because I'm purposely ignoring you due to a dislike or disinterest in our conversation, it's literally just how my brain works. And it sucks that people get so insecure about themselves and their relationships that they NEED constant attention to feel validation from their loved ones.

For me personally, posting and reposting somewhere like Bluesky takes less social energy and mental concentration than DMs do. Sometimes, if I'm halfway through a shift and need a quick serotonin boost on my break, reposting art or memes for five minutes is quicker and easier than personal convos.

Not even if you are friends. Or family. Or partners. While you are owed attention in general from the people in your life, you are not owed attention the moment someone has a free minute. Especially when that person works full time, has two partners and other friends, and has a busy schedule.

Someone I was really getting along with and starting to become friends with blocked me, because I wasn't responding to DMs fast enough, but was posting on social media.

I don't know how else to say it, but you are not owed another person's time or immediate attention like this.

The fight for a Palestine liberated from Israeli rule and an Israel liberated from totalitarian capitalism is and always will be so important to me, but there's a way to go about this discussion, and trying to overly correct grammar rather than actually engaging in said discussion isn't helping.

And while it's obviously not inherently antisemitic to support Palestine, people can be antisemitic while doing it (E.G. Candace Owens and other right wingers who just want Jewish people eradicated, or leftists who conflate Jewish people with the wealthy class), and it is so important to know that.

It's NOT because the word Socialism doesn't refer to leftist economic theory, it's because that's not how Hitler used the word. Similarly, while "semitic" can apply to both Jews and Palestinians, it's specifically Jewish discrimination that the word "antisemitism" applies to.

How a word is used, both in a current and historical context, is SO important when having discussions like this. The Nazis weren't "socialist" because Hitler's definition of the word was different from Marx's, and he went as far as to say Communism appropriating the word was a Jewish conspiracy.

While it IS true that Palestinians are semitic due to being indigenous to the Levant, the word antisemitic has linguistically evolved to specifically refer to discrimination against Jewish people. Trying to "Um Actually 🤓☝️" the word to people online doesn't do anything for Jews or Palestinians.
