Good investment. They're worth a quid these days. (Source : grandson aged 7)

Quince Slab Pie Quince, a vibrant cousin of the apple, mingles well with spiced and sweet ingredients. The fruit is poached in a wine-spiked syrup, which coats it as it bakes.

I recommend this one. Anglicised with Stone's Ginger Wine, and I topped the filling with membrillo from the reduced syrup.

She's a keeper. What's the current exchange rate? 5 empties for 1 of jam?

I had a very good one night stay with walking mates in the summer. A pub that really knows its market and works hard at hospitality (the non-fawning variety).

Never forget that there are good people around. My daughter (with granddaughter) was driving on a single carriageway A road in Manchester this PM and came to a stop as the clutch seized. Two cars stopped immediately and the blokes got out to push her off the road to a safe place.

A treasure trove of Charrington pub photos released by the National Brewery Heritage Trust. Well done to them.

Nigel Slater’s quince recipes You can’t eat them raw, but when cooked the delicate perfume of a quince is a bonus to everything from cheese to a warming winter pudding, writes Nigel Slater

The pudding recipe was good (using brioche). #workingclasshero

There's even a quince overload up here. Spiced quince chutney next. No chance of getting rid of apples.

I remember a day on the IWLD arriving at the pre-rebuild Black Sail in torrential rain and waterproofs struggling. The joy of opening the door and finding tea and chocolate cake for 50p.

It's more exciting than Test Match Special and BazBall. Will the new BrapaTick approach take the team through to a career best 3,000?

Pleased your beer experience was better than mine a couple of years ago. I suspect beer and clientele have more throughput at the weekend.

Beer was good for me but felt like being in the greeting area of a restaurant. Bit weird.

Lovely main man to go with his beers. I stayed in the hotel next door for a couple of nights. May be all downhill now.

I’m stupid, but it’s simple The recent e-mail from Jackie Parker, the National Chairman Elect of CAMRA, is well-meaning in its focus on the future of the organisation, but for me it set the alarm bells ringing. In some ways i…

As CAMRA reports on its current financial difficulties here's my thoughts from a blog post in 2018. The more things change....

I'd like to see financial penalties for fires outside the rules, and 'polluter pays' fines for any fires that go out of control. The public purse should not have to pay for fire services in these cases.

Wasn't just a life changer for you! Your route started a few 'young' blokes on a journey nearly 20 years ago. The hill from Litton to Buckden after a few lunchtime pints in the Falcon and Queen's Head is often remembered. Still walking together. Thanks Mark.
