I write stories that don't exist
just post them anyway. A shame to let all that work go to waste!
23.11.2025 23:50 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Photography of Hot House, a small red and white robot who turns into an A-10 Thunderbolt with the text FIRE DEPT on its wings.
Thinking about Hot House, the fire department A-10 Thunderbolt.
The person buying gear for the department read "fire support" on a spec sheet and said "oh perfect, that sounds like something we could use!"
so to couch this metaphor back in terms of Absolute Batman, I view it not as "song without lyrics", but rather a song with really distracting lyrics: again, the Doublemint gum jingle, if the product it was selling was just the idea of Batman
19.11.2025 16:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0haha yeah unironically I listen to a lot of music, of a lot of different kinds, and I don't really care about melody or instrumentation to nearly the same extent that I do about lyrics. I only really care about an instrumental piece if it was used to soundtrack a story I already care about
19.11.2025 16:34 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0I've had mine listed for sale for a while but I've unlisted him for the time being, just because I enjoy having him around. Just an absolute insane Transformers design, barely recognisable as one. What are the hinges on his drills for? He's a man of mystery. A safety feature, maybe?
12.11.2025 23:25 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0if you've never handled Beast Wars Scavenger before I think the thing that's really insane about him is just the fact that fully 75% of his body mass is just his arms. His entire robot-mode body and head is curled up in his abdomen, which itself is mostly kibble that hangs off his arse
12.11.2025 23:25 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0(And this copy in particular now contains a one-of-a-kind sketch!)
08.11.2025 20:53 โ ๐ 31 ๐ 10 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 1โEyes Wide Shut, Lips Wide Kissableโ is officially Larry Hama-approved
08.11.2025 20:51 โ ๐ 99 ๐ 32 ๐ฌ 6 ๐ 6honestly like can you imagine. What would he (?) even be doing there. Class of 4 normal preschoolers and 1 deranged killer
06.11.2025 11:14 โ ๐ 15 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0ah man, best of luck!
04.11.2025 20:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0....ah-heh, the code is airbrushed out of the other photos.
....which begs the question whether it was airbrushed away because that deco was dropped, or because *that's what toy photographers do all the time actually, but this time it was a false positive*
When I'm talking about the bizarre misdirects and riffs in Absolute Batman, it's not purely a mechanical critique: it's much more a tonal critique. It's, I don't know, Fight Club if Fight Club felt like a Saturday morning cartoon or a convention script reading. Does that make sense?
30.10.2025 08:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0now, if I'm at a Dragotta concert, and he ends it by playing the Doublemint gum jingle, I have no doubt that at his level of craft he can move me to tears. But he would just stand a much greater chance of it by playing Beethoven or whatever.
30.10.2025 08:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0right, but tone, mood, pacing and emotion are still ultimately downstream of the script; there needs to be something to convey at the core. Put it this way: an artist is like a musician. Let's say Dragotta is the greatest violinist in the world; he's a damn good artist--
30.10.2025 08:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0style can hugely elevate a work but yeah, I'm pretty staunchly only going to give "style points" if I think there's an actual compelling story at the core. Otherwise I may as well be watching a music video, or wandering a gallery, or mindlessly scrolling through commissions on an artist's insta
29.10.2025 22:34 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0checked out Absolute Batman today! It was Absolutely unremarkable

A robot who has the colours and basic silhouette of Optimus Prime, but all the details are made-up nonsense.
Was trying to make a point about how much the animation models for all the 1986 Scramble City guys suck, and drew this harrowing look at an alternate reality where the reference material available for drawing Optimus Prime's animation model was just as bad.
29.10.2025 15:24 โ ๐ 71 ๐ 15 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I have found a form to fill out a counter-notice but to be honest I'm planning on moving everything off Wordpress eventually anyway and don't feel like giving Google all my details. Guess they just really don't want you to know about good comics.
29.10.2025 12:59 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Oh this is crazy, I think my DWJ bibliography has been de-indexed by Google? I got it by googling when I went to update it the other day, and just now I tried againโeven searching "wadapan"โand it had vanished. Bizarre to think that it was flagged automatically?

sorry, I get what you're saying, I know none of this really addresses it. I guess all I mean is that maybe it amounts to something in aggregate, even if not individually. I'm excited for the Jo Joe zine...!
anyway now I'm just picturing Woody's nightmare from Toy Story 2
to put it another way, if you were content slop brained the TV Tropes article could have been a blog post. It could just live on a website under your name and two years from now random strangers would drop comments on it. Obviously much more useful on a wiki! But not from a selfish perspective!
26.10.2025 20:02 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0have you thought about making some kind of website or index of the things you have worked on? I think of you as a very industrious person but by nature of posting things to social media, or to anonymous, static wikis, it makes them more ephemeral than they have to be
26.10.2025 20:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0like you know me I'm pretty project motivated and I would say since the pandemic I can pretty much count on one hand the things that gave me that satisfaction from extant sources. With works of fiction my commentaries are an exercise in going "am I proud of this? Yeah okay I guess I am proud of XYZ"
26.10.2025 20:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0yeah to be honest I think this is just the nature of thankless curative internet labour. You gotta just be your own fan or else find some sort of niche that gets people interested and leads to the cycle of feedback and motivation
26.10.2025 20:02 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0so far as I can tell Mayhew is simply in a position where he can personally order the minimum 500 copies (assuming this information is still accurate), commission *himself* (or rather, da computer) to make the cover, then flog them on his own website. Just gets rubber-stamped doesn't it!
25.10.2025 23:57 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0yeah so per this 2021 article this isn't a regular variant where Skybound knocks on yer doorโit's the other way around
bleedingcool.com/comics/image...
which I realize is small consolation to everyone I know who'd kill to draw Optimus Prime for a comic cover, but there ya go

dammit now I'm wondering what the list looks like. Like Arcee has got the most misogynist momence just by sheer volume, but she's born with goodness in her heart. Need me a Thunderblast type stereotype. A real The Razor's Edge OC esque misstep. Do the ROTF bikes count as one slot or three
25.10.2025 00:50 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0ALSO, you know what. It's the fact that Tessman fully disassembled that toy and put it back together and he just left the back wheel as it was. Barbarous and depraved
25.10.2025 00:37 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0it's a sobering thought, isn't it? That Mark Weber or whoever got the message from legal, plugged the word into the TFWiki, glazed his eyes over the page, and put it in the spreadsheet
25.10.2025 00:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0it's crazy making. Gotta be in my top 5 most sexist Transformers characters for sure. All time great. These precisely 100 words say so much with so little
