What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”
What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”
Funny how that works.
Glad a Judge dismissed the Ford government's injunction to stop a pro-Palestinian rally in Toronto.
This is a victory for freedom of expression & association.
Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of a democratic society.
A Conservative gov’t trying to shut it down for political purposes is deplorable.
Today's jobs report is deeply alarming:
➡️84,000 jobs lost
➡️108,000 full-time positions erased
➡️youth unemployment is skyrocketing
The Liberals are making this jobs crisis worse with cuts and austerity. The NDP is demanding better.

In Davos, Mark Carney pledged to apply the same standards to allies and rivals.
Canada rightly condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine as illegal. But Carney is backing the equally illegal US-Israeli war on Iran.
I pressed the Liberals on this reversal, note their muddled response:
You’re welcome!
One last post: Carney DID double down with his second statement: he restated his support for the Iran attack but added it was given “with regret”. That’s an emotion, not a clarification. He then wouldn’t rule out committing Canadian troops - something he has appeared to walk back.
Carney clearly said he supports the US / Israel attack on Iran. Every media report confirms this.
He agrees also with Trump’s motive, which is spurious: to stop nuclear weapons that all objective sources, from International Atomic Energy Commission to UN says they do not have and are not pursuing.
Yes, he did.
Carney’s first statement:
“Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security.”
Honoured to attend the Celebration of Life of Leo Gerard, former President of United Steelworkers of America.
Leo was a giant of a man, one of the greatest labour leaders Canada has ever produced.
Tough, humble, skilled, honest, with an unshakeable devotion to working people.
RIP, Brother.

I spoke to CBC about the war on Iran and the Prime Minister’s support for it. Canada needs to take a principled, lawful and consistent approach to foreign policy issues.
In Davos, PM Carney told the world that Canada will be principled in our commitment to upholding international law. He now admits the war on Iran is illegal — and he's backing it anyway. That's not principled leadership. It's a betrayal of everything he promised.
Regulatory oversight is not prohibition. 🛑
Today I addressed the House to clear up the misinformation on #C233. My bill doesn't stop exports; it ensures that ALL military exports—including those to the U.S.—undergo the same human rights assessment.

The shots fired at the US Consulate in Toronto this morning are reprehensible. New Democrats condemn all acts of political violence and intimidation. We are relieved no-one was hurt, and stand in solidarity with all diplomatic staff working to foster dialogue and understanding.
Well said, @donvdavies.bsky.social.
Happy International Women’s Day. Today we celebrate the leadership, resilience, & contributions of women and girls in our communities and around the world. It’s also a time to recommit to advancing equality, protecting hard-won rights, and ensuring every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive.
Moving celebration of 50 years of MOSAIC - a truly nation-building organization that helps newcomers integrate, contribute and thrive.
By connecting us all, we strengthen our community & country.
Thanks to all staff & volunteers who have made MOSAIC a success.
Here’s to the next 50 years!
The Liberal government’s position on the US-Israeli attack on Iran is unprincipled, incoherent and contradictory. It changes by the day.
This is not what Canadians expect from their government.
Canada shouldn’t either.
Last Parliament, I worked to pass strong anti-greenwashing rules to stop corporations from making false environmental claims.
Last week, the Liberals and Conservatives joined forces to gut them.
Rather than defending the public, they’re facilitating corporate deception.
While working-class Canadians are being told to make sacrifices by PM Carney, his Liberal government is repealing the luxury tax on private jets and yachts. The contrast could not be more glaring: austerity for working people, tax breaks for those at the very top.
Last week I tried to remove sections of the Liberal budget bill that retroactively deny compensation owed to Canadian Veterans. But the Liberals and Conservatives teamed up to keep the provisions in place. This shameful decision breaks Canada’s covenant with those who served.
Trump’s attack on Iran violates UN rules Canada has agreed to uphold. It contradicts numerous values PM Carney claimed he supported in Davos. Endorsing illegality, violence, & destruction over dialogue and peaceful resolution is not what Canadians were promised, or support.
Carney’s Liberals are caving to Trump and failing to send aid to Cuba in the face of illegal US superpower aggression against a much weaker state. The measly $8 million Canada announced is only a two month advance on our normal annual grant.
Cuba needs energy. Canada should send it now.
The Liberals’ budget bill hides a major threat to Canada’s democratic checks and balances. It gives ministers sweeping power to override Parliament by waiving laws for select individuals and corporations. Such extraordinary measures shouldn't be buried in a 600‑page omnibus bill.
Canadians voted for an elbows-up approach to deal with the US. But since the election, the Liberals have repeatedly caved in to Trump’s demands. Canadians deserve a government that keeps their promises.
Quite absurd. We propose to target EV rebates to encourage production in Canada.
We think Canadian tax dollars should be used to subsidize EVs that are made in Canada. Subsidizing EVs made in other countries helps their economies, not ours.
The Liberals’ decision to repeal the Underused Housing Tax makes no sense. This measure was meant to curb foreign speculation in Canada's housing market and raise nearly $700M for public priorities. Scrapping it means giving up an important tool for addressing the housing crisis.
I urged all members to reject the removal of the Digital Services Tax. Letting US big tech off the hook means walking away from $7.2B that could fund public services and infrastructure. We should not be abandoning Canadian policy simply because of pressure from Donald Trump.
